i have got a chance to see him play vs georgia this year and came away impressed...its always seems like his qb situation at south carolina was bad but i ask any 1 else if they saw him play on a regular basis how good did they think he was...and is he a 2nd or 3rd pick ? give me some feedback

I'm thinking that he's a mid/late first round pick. NFL Draft Countdown has
him rated 19th overall and #2 WR- Ted Ginn hasn't declared yet. Ginn vs.
Rice- who would you take? I'm not sure, maybe Rice.

I thought he was a Junior declaring for draft. They have him listed there as a Senior. :confused:

Yeah, just checked that link. They even have Greg Olsen listed there as a Senior, 32 overall. Must be a type-o. These two are not Seniors.

If Ginn Jr. declares, I'd take Ginn over Rice anyday. Ginn has much more upside, great hands, faster, great special teams player.

Either way, drafting a WR in the first round is not what we need. We have bigger holes and needs to fill other than WR. I think a lot will determine who we resign and sign as a FA. I'm starting to like the idea of trading down and getting more picks.

Yea he was redshirted one year so thats why he can declare for the draft

We need this guy ! Im sick of all this Drop Passes BS
If Brohm is not around at #9 lets get Sydney Rice this guy has the best hands iv ever seen ! not to mention he runs about a 4.3

addressing some of whats been posted about Sidney Rice;

Sidney would be a rising (red shirt) Junior at SC, not a senior. he had an amazing redshirt freshman season in 2005. he made at least a dozen insane, acrobatic, oronde gadsden/ oj mcduffie/ chris chambers highlight reel type catches as a freshman. at times he was unstoppable. he played bigger than his 6'2 202 pounds, and had an uncanny ability to change direction in the air and adjust to the ball.

he came in this fall 15 pounds heavier, and much more muscled, but from the Georgia game on something was not the same.

part of it was that he got alot more respect from defensive coordinators and was double teamed often, BUT no one who watched the Game****s week-in-and-week-out can deny (like i did) that Sidney regressed this past season.

he had two huge statistical games against Florida International and Middle Tennessee. otherwise, he didnt show up this season until our rivalry game against Clemson, againt Arkansas in a shootout where Carolina was playing from behind, and in the Liberty Bowl, which was a shootout, against Houston. part of that can also be explained by QB play, but he wasnt the same player.

top it all off with him stating adamantly since November that he was coming back for his junior season, and making a point to do so in the media. this included an public announcement with Steve Spurrier after a meeting he requested with the coach.

remind you of anyone Dolphin fans know???

here is a link to his stats for the season;

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=169717

note his stats versus;

wofford: 7-151-0 TD
florida atl; 9-151 5 TD (yes 5)
Middle Tenn; 6-90 2 TD

now his conference games against SEC opponents;

UGA; 3-31
Auburn; 4-48
Tenn; 3-52
Florida; 7-72

Carolina lost to UGA by 18, Auburn by 7, Florida by 1 point, and Tennessee by 7. Sidney was a nonfactor in those games. and disappeared for great stretches during those games.

to be fair, he had good games against Clemson and Arkansas, and was big in the Liberty Bowl against Houston. but take out his stats wofford, MTSU, and FAU and his season wasnt too special.

he is making a mistake coming out after his sophomore season mistake in my opinion. kenny mckinley ( the WR opposite sidney) is now a full fledged threat and the double teams would decrease because mckinley will burn you if you dont respect him, and sidney would have been primed for a monster season with senior QB who can sling it.

Sidney Rice is a redshirt sophomore. If Brian Brohm doesn't declare or is taken before he gets to #9, I hope we take Rice. I can't believe people say that receiver is not a need. Did you see the drops? The receivers have a hard getting separation from the DB's. Rice is what this team needs, size, fast and has great hands. He didn't have the greatest QB situation at South Carolina and still produce great numbers. I'm on the Sidney Rice bandwagon (if Brian Brohm isn't there at 9).

I was hoping to avoid drafting a WR in round #1 simply because we are drafting too early in the round and Calvin Johnson is a top 5. I watched their bowl game and I agree. Rice is definitely the kind of guy we need but I wouldn't take him in round #1 unless we traded down.

Rice is a sophmore and is 6'4. not 6'2.

personally i rate Rice as my #2 WR behind CJ, and hope we take him at 9. Hes going first round, so hes not making a mistake coming out at all. he has no shot at a NC at SC, so whats the point?

We definitley need a reciever but I think most people (myself included) don't want to draft one at the 9th pick (unless Calvin Johnson were there). It's historically a bad spot to draft a WR. There will probably be a solid QB available at that spot and statistically either the top DE,DT,LB or CB in the entire draft will be available at the 9th pick. These are in many people's minds greater needs. The only way I would take Rice in round 1 is if we trade down.

Comparing Sidney Rice to Calvin Johnson in there first 2 years. (Since Rice only played 2 years.)

Johnson 102 catches 1725 yards 17.08 yds/catch 13 TDs

Rice 142 catches 2233 yards 15.73 yds/catch 23 TDs

I'm not sure about historically drafting a WR at any draft position. If there is need and the player you want is there, take him. If you noticed in my post, I did say if Brohm is not there, which means Brian Brohm is my #1 choice. Brohm or maybe even Brady Quinn are the only QB's I would want the Dolphins to take in the first round. I'm not sold on Jamarcus Russell. I just believe that Sidney Rice could be a Terrell Owens, WITHOUT THE BAGGAGE, and that is something the Dolphins don't have.

Does anyone know where Dallas Baker of Florida is rated? I am a Canes fan, so I don't really know much about the Gator players but this guy always seems to be in the endzone and making a clutch catches in the highlights and he looks like he has some size to him.Truthfully, I don't even know if he is a Jr or Sr. just wondering what you guys thought him.

I watched him take over games while just a freshman. After Spurrier came in and kicked out (off the team) some key players on offense, Sidney was our only playmaker, and defenses still couldn't stop him. Only our god awful QB's could do that.
