Sign Carr and deal down

I prefer David Carr to any QB in this years draft. Especially if he can be had for a day 2 pick (4th round), which is being reported. If we do sign him then I would use Brady Quinn as bait for the teams behind us like Carolina who would easily move up to select him.

Simple really. Carr plus other high round picks. Or Quinn with the #9. I'll take Carr plus more talent in the draft. That's my take.

After visiting quite a few sites I WOULD HAVE TO AGREE, picking up Carr for a 4th or 5th, dropping down from nine and getting an extra high pick would still allow miami to do exactly what i feel they need to do. Sraleys stock has been rising and might be a reach in the 1st but the o-line needs some serious help, still would be able to pick up a qb in the 2nd (Stantons looking pretty good) and add some more depth to the o-line Kalil/Grubbs/Sears/ whoever is still avaibable and add a piec or 2 to the d-fense hopefully Mccauley.

Would be one of the better drafts in a while if all falls into place.

I was mulling over a similar situation involving giving up our four for Carr now. (Of course offer a sixth first, but I digress.) Then we trade down from #9 for a mid-first, a fourth, and a player. That player would preferably be a solid starter on the OL. I know OTs are in short supply, so it would probably be a guard or center because it's more likely a team might have an extra one of quality than an OT.

So...

You give the #9 (1350points)

You get:

Pick between #13-#18, let's say #16 (approx 1000points)
Solid OL starter w/experience... (worth approx 150points)
4th rounder, guessing about ............ (approx 200points)

And previously you acquired Carr for your own fourth.

You have used your new #1, and still have two #2s, a #3, and your new #4 ...and it's only day one.

I would still take a QB prospect day one to groom and challenge Carr in year two or three of the Cam era, if for no other reason than to hedge my bets against Carr/Lemon and take a chance on finding a special player at the QB position without using a #1 on him.

...and someone else thought Houston was going to get one of their #2s back for him!

I'm cool with waiting for a guy to get cut (Carr or Green) but you do run the risk of losing him to someone else. I'm to the point now where if we don't get a QB in FA or trade, we might have to take one day one and day two just to increase our chances of landing a solid prospect. While we do need depth at a lot of positions, we'll just have to do a better job with street free agents to make up the difference. You have a better chance of a 4th or 6th rounder sticking at QB than an undrafted QB off the street, where as with a lineman with a couple of knocks against him you could pick him up after the draft, be patient, and have it pay off two or three years down the line.

I'm cool with waiting for a guy to get cut (Carr or Green) but you do run the risk of losing him to someone else. Another thought too is that if Russel and Quinn were taken by the Raiders and Detroit (which many now suspect), the Dolphins are in a prime spot to trade down with teams who would be desperate to pick up Peterson. Namely, Buf @ 12, GB @ 16, and Tenn @ 19. Think how much more we could leverage this pick if Peterson falls to us!

I'd be happy w/ Carr, but I think Quinn will be better. If we have the chance to get him, we should.

Now, I'm not against getting Carr, then trading down for more picks if the opportunity arises. But you can just not pass on Quinn if he's there at #9! No way, no how!

much better idea, however, someone may trade something for him and you would lose out on him.

I think Carr would probably love to play for us as he knows he'd have a chance to start...plus he'd have an offensive minded HC who's trying to make the team younger.....I think Carr can still have a good career in the NFL.
