Im going to get into a little bit of everything that has been going on through the first few hours of free agency. First off, Im feeling mixed on the Brandon Marshall trade. Brandon Marshall was and is an elite talent at the WR position but there is baggage attached to him. Nobody questions his talent level, but at times he could be a distraction to this team and reports are that there was a tension between him and Henne at times. Im not saying he is Terrell Owens, Im saying he is Tarrell Owens-like. The problem I have is that the Fins gave up two 2nd round picks for him and he has played well, then they trade him before the third year for two 3rds. I would have thought that the Fins could have received something a little more (a 2nd and 3rd...etc). The main thing this trade does, it puts another hole on this team. I know Colston has already resigned with the Saints and it looks like Vincent Jackson will likely sign with the Bucs, so there arent many top WR left in free agency. Reggie Wayne is maybe the last top level option (although he may not be top level anymore). Reggie Wayne seems to me more like another incentive to try and bring Peyton Manning here. As far as the quarterback goes, I think the best scenario would be Peyton Manning signing and then sign Reggie Wayne. In this scenario, I would rather wait until the 3rd or 4th round to bring in a developmental QB (Foles, Cousins..). Ill explain why a little later.
If Manning decides to go somewhere else, it looks like Flynn will be our next target. It has already being reported that the Dolphins are negotiating with Flynn. I for one would rather stick it out with Matt Moore 1 more year than sign Flynn. He played extremely well in those 2 games he started but he had a complete team around him (Good O-line, great WRs, pro bowl TE, excellent defense). Im not saying he wont be a good QB, Im just saying it reminds me of AJ Feeley or Kevin Kolb. He may end up becoming Matt Schaubb but I just think its too much of a risk for a deal in the ball park of 5 years $55 million. That being said, if the Fins did sign Flynn, I would be excited and optimistic about the prospect of having a young QB. What I absolutely dont want is to draft Ryan Tannehill at #8. Hes only been a QB for less than 2 college seasons and I think he is being pushed way up in the draft due to it being a somewhat weak QB class other than at the top.
If Manning doesnt sign, Id rather wait until next years draft because it has 4 potential franchise QBs (Matt Barkley from USC, Landry Jones from Oklahoma, Tyler Bray from Tennessee, and Tyler Wilson from Arkansas).
