Some on the board seem to have a lower opinion of Ronnie these days because of his holdout, but I don't hate Ronnie for trying to get top dollar value based on the going market rate, I blame the system for allowing rookies access to this type of money to begin with. I believe top dollar should only go to proven players who actually deserve it. Rookies should be signed to a very cap friendly and reasonable dollar figure on a standard 3 year deal. This contract should be backloaded with incentives for the third year, giving the player a chance to make excellent money going into new contract negotiations and will give them leverage. If not this, then the NFL needs to implement some form of cap relief for huge rookie deals. There should also be some sort of small financial penalty applied against a rookie contract for every day of TC missed.
I just don't like that many of these players will make more money before they have proven a thing than they will make when they have. The system is in need of serious repair.
