Well, the season is over. However, the season wasn't all bad. We had some good games, and we are picking #9. And now, I partake in a yearly off-season tradition: The Mock Draft.
Keep in mind - This does not take into account an
Round 1 - CB Leon Hall
Right now, our CB corps consist of Will Allen, Travis Daniels, Andre' Goodman, Eddie Jackson, Michael Lehan, and now, the newly added Shirdonya Mitchell. Not a bad group, really. But we do need a great corner to play alongside Will Allen, and this Wolverine could do the trick. An All-American First-Teamer, All-Big 10 First Teamer, finalist for both the Jim Thorpe Award and Bronko Nagurski Trophy, and quarterfinalist for the Lott Trophy, he has speed, a good vertical, and can quarterback's worse nightmare. He could be a rare breed: A shutdown corner.
Alternate routes: OT Levie Brown, CB McCauley, DE Gaine Adams, OLB Paul Posluszny
Round 2 - DE/OLB LaMarr Woodley
Our defensive line has some youth. We have Matt Roth, a closed end who may well be a starter next year. We have Fred Evans, who looks like a beast whenever he plays. We have Rodrique Wright, a player who should of been out of our reach, and we have Kevin Vickerson. We might also have Manuel Wright, who was beast when he played as well.
Now, we also have a little youth at the linebacker position. We have Channing Crowder, who is doing great, but can still improve a little. We have Derrick Pope, who has made some key plays with the little playing time he receives.
LaMarr Woodley could be a current and/or future answer for either part of the front seven. Either way, he would be a pass rushing force opposite of Jason Taylor. He will need some work with technique, but if goes through the Matt Roth plan and soak JT's (and others') knowledge, him and Roth could be a devestating pair of defensive ends in the future. Either that, or he'll be a great outside linebacker.
Alternate Routes: OLB Stewart Bradley, CB Fred Bennet
Round 3 - OT Arron Sears
Intelligence, athleticism, size, instincts, and versatility. He will need some tutelage from Houck, but he is does a lot to start with.
Alternate Routes: DT Kareem Brown, WR Paul Williams
Round 4 - DT Paul Soliai
Paul Soliai is a prototypical nose tackle. He stands at 6'4" 334. However, he was suspended before the Armed Forces Bowl, so he may have some character issues. However, Saban has taken chances with players who has had major character issues in the past, and we do need youth at the Nose Tackle position. As a space-eater, he has came up big for the Utes, even scoring a blocked PAT.
Round 5 - Traded for QB Joey Harrington.
Round 6 - WR Bryan Moore
This is me, hoping for Bryan Moore to slip past the 5th Round. He has size, hands, and can run routes pretty well. He is also smart, seeking a second degree in theatre. Did I also mention he has height at 6-3?
Alternate Route: I don't know
Round 7 - BPA
