I've been stewing for awhile about the current state of our beloved Fins, trying to find comparisons with past teams/players. I'd love to hear what you all have, just to spark a nice little discussion. Here's what I have, right now:

We are somewhat similar to the 2005 Philadelphia Eagles.

A team that entered the season with high expectations, only to implode with inner turmoil. A QB playing injured, a team with talent, but no execution.

We are the San Diego Chargers of the last few years.

Simply, Quarterback Controversy. Some people wanted Brees, some wanted Rivers. Eventually, the back-up was given the starting job, and is playing well.

Joey Harrington is similar (could be) to Trent Green or Jake Plummer. A talented QB who can win games in the system he's in, but can sometimes make costly mistakes.

Daunte Culpepper is similar to Drew Bledsoe. A talented Quarterback that puts up good stats, but can't seem to win a "big" game. Right now, C-Pep isn't mobile and while he was in, was making a lot of bad reads and was taking a lot of sacks.

Ronnie Brown is similar to Thurman Thomas. He's got all the tools to be a very good back in the NFL. He catches the ball well out of the backfield, and given time and experience, he could be a superstar in the NFL.

Chris Chambers is similar to ______. A receiver capable of catching the ball effectively between 15-20 yards. He could be a legitimate #1 receiver in this league with more consistancy.

Change them up, add different players, and just honestly put what you think, I just want to get something different going around here. I'm just tired of talking about how bad we're playing and who's better between Joey and Daunte.

Hold on a sec, your comparing us to the 2005 eagles. Those eagles had a history of divison championships, of conference championships, and coming off a superbowl. The dolphins havnt even been in the playoffs in 5 years. How about we were an overatted team to begin with and all the fans fell for the hype. how about the fact that everyone thought daunte was the answer yet failed to realize he had 5 td's and 12 ints last year before he got hurt. For a comparison how about the:

2004 BILLS, ended the season winning 6 0f 7, everyone thought they were on the rise, but the reality was they were not that good. Ive said before, that win streak last year was great but we still had guys like bollinger throwing for 300 yards on us and many of those games were close and against backup QB's.

Towards the end of the 1st half of the Dallas/Philly game yesterday, the announcer (Joe Buck) said that this is Parcells 4th year and the best team he's had.

Dallas, as I recall, overachieved in Tuna's 1st season and tanked the next year.

Bill took over a legendary franchise who had a recent history of underachieving and is in the process of totally revamping their philosophy and modus operandi. What an eerie parallel.

Nick IMO is trying to do the exact same thing. There were some that thought when Saban took over the phins would be Steelers south. That big, physical, smash mouth style on both sides of the ball.

Saban is looking for a team that is physical but capable of the big play on O much like the Jaguars during the Coughlin/Brunnell era. Its only obvious he wants a flexible/adaptable on both sides of the ball just like the Pats.

If it were up to me; The Phins would resemble the Redskins (during Gibbs' 1st tenure on O) & the Ravens over the last 7 years or so but not their miserable attempt at the 3-4.

I find it funny that there are some of you who want to run more and go back to the 4-3. Why not terminate Nick rehire Wanny?

Parcells is a legendary coach, with a history in the NFL. Saban has neither. Sopt comparing him to guys like Cowher, Belichick, and parcells etc., all those guys have been in the NFL for over 30 years, watching NFL offenses and defenses, scouting etc. Saban has 5 years of NFL experience.

I was not comparing Nick to Bill rather the current situations they inherited. Meaning there is hope but it will take time.

I think we remind us of a terd in the toilet! It hangs around and hangs around until it finally gets flushed down the tank! Just my opinion!

Comparisons are fun, however, can you really relate one teams misfortunes to another and expect the same eventual results? I don't think so. This team needs a healthy dose of confidence. It looms around and just when it starts to click.................. BOOM! Holding Jeno James, BAM! False start Jeno James, BANG! Holding Justin Peele! Aye Caramba!!!!

I do know that Teams do have a history of turning things around ala Cincinatti, Tampa Bay, Chicago, etc. It's just the evolution of the game. Very hard to reamin consistant with the salary cap. Although good coaching and scouting have alot to do with building and retaining a solid "team". Saban inherited a mess IMHO. I really think his love of the defensive seconday caused him to choose Jason Allen this year as opposed to selecting a more glaring need (O-Lineman). But hindsight is, well, you know. Will take time. Last year we seemed to gel in the second half of the season, but if you look at it, we are a different team with different players. Last year (1st half) we were plagued with penalties as we are this year. The gelling needs to happen soon or the season will be lost.
