Simpler Defense?

Well contrary to popular belief, Miami's defense had alot of different formations and a lot of different personal.

Not as simple as a 4-3 and that's that.

So do you think this will be better for us? I personally think we should be able to switch up blitz packages and formations with lots of different looks. But I understand you have to have the personnel to run that stuff, and I don't think we do. The lb Corp anyway

Having a better qb of the defense would benefit the whole defense.

There isn't one right now and it shows.

The Seahawks always play Sherman on the same side of the field. They almost always come out in the same looks. The reason they have the best defense is because all those gusy know exactly where they have to be at all times. They have their specific roles so ironed down that they almost never make mental mistakes. They trust each other and the system.

Our system was so "unique" we had Cam Wake covering running backs on 3rd down.

I'm all for a simpler defense.

I still find it very comedic when people call Philbin names, especially when their personal/professional accomplishments don't even come close to him.

If a team has elite talent, a simple defense can be better than one that's reliant on complex formations & blitzes.

- The Giants beat the Patriots in two Super Bowls, because they were able to generate a consistent pass rush with their front four, WITHOUT needing to blitz.

- Tom Brady mentioned that the best defense he ever played against was the Miami Dolphins defense of Jason Taylor, Zach Thomas, Surtain, Madison, Tim Bowens, etc. He said that that Miami defense pretty much lined up the same way again & again, and shut down opponents without needing tricks & gimmicks.

==============

Brady was asked about New England's offense coming with new wrinkles and doing different, elaborate things. Brady said all that is overplayed. He said doing a couple of things very well can be almost as effective if the personnel is good and right.

"I've said before the best defense I’ve ever played against was the Miami Dolphins about 8, 9, 10 years ago, and they played pretty much the same defense the whole game," Brady said. "And it didn’t matter what you did, they rushed the passer, they covered you, they covered you short, they covered you deep.

"They had one or two change-ups that really complimented what they were doing. I had my worst games against the Dolphins. Our passing game against them was terrible, and we knew going into the game exactly what they play, and that to me is the mark of a really good team is when they do kind of say what you’re going to do but you do it so well that they really are not able to stop you anyway.”

I just think the more we can confuse an offense with different schemes, formations and blitz packages the better. I mean, its almost a requirement for guys like manning and luck and rogers. I dunno maybe it will work. I hope so.

And the seahawks have the personnel to be able to run a defense however they want. They don't really have a weakness on defense they need to hide with different packages. Maybe now that they lost their corner on the other side of sherman but they are still light years ahead of our defense.

Did they know where they had to be during the superbowl? Not arguing but brady carved them up when he needed to

Did they know where they had to be during the superbowl. Not arguing just saying brady carved them up when he needed to. They definately have their strengths and their coach knows to play his guys by their strenghts. If only ours could figure that out

I prefer how the Giants beat Brady & the Patriots in TWO Super Bowls (get a consistent pass rush with your front four, WITHOUT needing to blitz).

Whenever you blitz, you open up gaps in your defense, and the elite QBs (Brady, Manning, etc) can torch your defense.

2011: Miami blitzes, Tom Brady quick throws to Wes Welker, 99 yd touchdown..

2009: Miami blitzes, Peyton Manning quick throws to Pierre Garcon, 48 yd touchdown..

If we have the talent, then I prefer the way that the Giants beat the Patriots in two Super Bowls.

And with the addition of Suh, we might be able to do it.

Dang that 99 yard er by Welker was in 2011? Seems like it was just last year. Time Flys by too fast. That was the year the nfl was on strike and everyone in our defense was so outta shape. Getting all cramped up in the heat... they straight up stole our home field advantage that game

Hey, if you give me a team full of better players, that works. But if you line up a bunch of me against a team of JJ Watt and Ndamukong Suh type players .... I'm getting destroyed playing it straight.

So, most likely, I'm going to need to try a more complicated scheme to counteract the fact that I am outmatched ralent-wise.

Our defense creates mismatches that help put our players into situations that cripple the opposing offense or causes them to waste players trying to protect areas that we faked attacking. It is what gets free pressure on QB'S and forces them to rush throws, throw interceptions and get sacked.
