Sorry, this is just another standard praise thread, but I deem it mandatory. Last year we didn't win a game until what? week 7? 8? I know it was against the Rams.

Anyhow, the point is, last year we didn't win a game until well into our season. This year, WE MAY ECLIPSE OUR ENTIRE WIN TOTAL OF LAST YEAR BEFORE THE WEEK IN WHICH WE WON OUR FIRST GAME LAST YEAR!

That is amazing to me. On top of that, it is using the same receiving corps, virtually the same o-line and the same core defenders on the other side of the ball. It goes to show you the quality of coaching we finally have, and the deficiency we suffered through for years.

You know what, it has been evident since day one with Saban. The last few year's with Wannstedt, every time we had the ball, I was nervous. Nervous that Jay/AJ owuld throw a pick, nervous that someone was going to get injured behind a putrid, incompetant o-line. Nervous that our defense would ultimately get worn down and blow the slim lead we somehow managed to get.

All of that is gone now. Come the opening kickoff against Denver, I was eerily calm, to an extent. I mean, it was opening day, so I was pumped, but I wasn't worried. I was able to watch the game with friends and family and just enjoy it. When we lost ot the Jets, I didn't get too upset. I kind of said, "oh well, get them next time," and moved on. I have never been that way after a loss. Usually, I would sulk for awhile and want to be left alone.

I have to admit, I did get a tinge of last year when we blew our lead against Carolina. Had this been last year, Carolina would have driven down the field, kicked the game winning field goal and walked out of Miami a winner. I held my breath. I thought that they had reverted back to Wanny ball, or worse yet, that Saban ball really was no different than Wanny Ball. Kind of like the different variations of Bill Walsh's West Coast Offense.

However, with a simple plucking of the ball from the air, Lance Schulters not only stole the ball, momentum and game for Miami, he also stole any thoughts that this team was anything resembling the teams of yesteryear.

When he intercepted he ball, I smiled. I knew the game was over. Excpeth this time, I was happy about it. Nick Saban is going to do big things in Miami. It is too badd we had to suffer through Wannstedt to get to this point. However, maybe it was necesarry for us to fully appreciate what we have now.

To all Dolfans I say, sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride. It is going to be a fun one. :)

What a diference a new coach and a new attitude make! Go fins!!!

I have a feeling that Saban will reach Profit status within the next five years

You mean prophet? Like we are going to start a religion and follow him? That doesn't seem unreasonable at all.

I have a REALLY bad case of the told you so. Here's why. I have been saying since January on this site that SO many fans that post here are HUNGOVER! We were hungover from the Dumbstadt disaster the JJ almost winner and Shula that was a has-been.

When Saban got here and I studied who he was and what he was about. And I watched him deal with Ricky I started mouthing off all over this site that Saban will make us a contender this year. I called for 4 and 4 out of the box and 11-5 or 12-4 overall. I was aggravated by all the posters on this site that were hopeful about 8-8 and 9-7.

Now I think that I underestimated Saban. This defense is absolutely sick. And I heard a couple of comments by Saban on that super silly net radio show that was on last night. Saban is a BEAST. He was talking about not laying on the ground with the wind knocked out of you so that you NEVER show your opponent weakness. Then I see pictures of Seau in SI screaming like a famished caged gorrilla that is about to rip your head off so he can get a meal! And Zach - oh my Gad! That guy is unbelievable. Finally players on a diet of Steak and Gunpowder!

Watch this. If this O-line can improve on run-blocking and our secondary can sure up a bunch the sky is the limit for this team. And while I understand what you mean about your sense of inner peace watching this team - I am not there yet. I mean I want/need this team to lay the wood - to open some wounds - to put some people on the learning curve - to lay some people OUT - to put Chump Bailey in the MASH unit - to make the NFL regret that they failed to put us on Monday night or even Sunday night. I NEED Nick to redeem us NOW!

yup. it also shows that a football coach can have a far greater impact on his team than a coach or manager of any other sport.

Its official, I love me some Miami Dolphins football again and I can thank Mr. Saban for that!

Honestly, last Sunday vs the Jets I was a little angry during the game at the fact that we were playing so poorly and tentative against the Jets but usually I would be FUMING! I would be soooo pissed but I was able to handle it well. I didn't ruin everyone else's day like I usually do when the dolphins lose...actually, it didn't really even ruin my day completely...I got to spend time with the girlfriend... ;) :D

I'm telling you, the rest of the league don't know what's coming these next few years... well maybe BB does.
They're stuck on the train tracks and conductor Saban doesn't believe in breaks.

Wait till next year when we have money to offer, FA should jump at the chance to live/play in Miami with a stud coach like Saban. Watchout League.

BTW, we didn't win our 2nd game last year unitl November! What a treat it is to have an excellent coaching staff handling things!

If you really look at it, you can never really outright PREDICT those huge turnarounds (from 3-13 to 13-3, 4-12 to 12-4, etc.) but Miami had a lot of the same things going for them that those huge first-year turnaround teams did.

We had a cast of very talented veterans that are use to winning on defense. We had a bunch of rudderless underachievers with talent on the offense. And we added a strict disciplinarian coach with a very strong and forceful personality to a team that clearly was in need of a strict disciplinarian with a strong personality.

It is safe to say that this team was never so much in need, and probably will never be again, of Nick Saban as their head coach as they were after last season. Ricky is right when he says that football teams and coaching have their own lifecycle. Remember after the implosion at the end of Jimmy Johnson's last year, and the drastic dropoff in talent that Wannstedt inherited his first year, the team rewarded him with a 10-6 season, winning the AFC East, and it's only playoff win under the Wannstedt era. This was because after Johnson's abject negativity, they probably really needed a hokey nice guy coach who could become a player's coach and would keep a pulse on the team.

After that though, personnel decisions just crushed Wannstedt's regime, just like they did in Chicago.
