CARLSBAD, Calif. — Tight end Dion Sims has cleared a major hurdle to put him in line to return to the lineup Sunday against the San Diego Chargers.

Sims cleared the concussion protocol and, barring a setback, will be in the lineup against San Diego.

“Things are looking good right now for us,” Head Coach Adam Gase said after practice Friday. “We’ve got a good chance for him to be active. He’s out of the concussion protocol, which is good. Everything seems to be OK, we just want to keep going through our process.”

Sims missed the victories against the Buffalo Bills and the New York Jets after sustaining a concussion against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He returned to practice in the middle of last week and appeared on track to return last Sunday but ultimately wasn’t cleared in time for the Jets game.

“I’m glad to be back out there,” Sims said. “The process was long, but it is what it is. My health is first.

“Yeah, I’m ready for a full load to try and pick where I left off and help as much as I can with the success that we’re having right now.”

I hope they don't demote the TE that's being a blocking machine in place of Sims. If it ain't broken don't mess with it Coach.

I don't think they'll take Gray off the field, i actually Would expect to see Sims and Gray on the field together probably quite often.

Gase likes to run two TE's formation. I'm sure they can use both out there

Ozzy rules!!

I actually like all 3 ..Sims, Gray and Jones ..I hope those are our 3 for the rest of the season

lol @ the NFL's concussion protocol....I don't really think anyone knows, doctors included if Sims' brain is now "ok" to play...but hey, if that's what they say, then who are we to argue....

Anyway, Sims should remain on the bench unless Gray and Jones really stink it up....he doesn't suck, but he doesn't seem to make much of an impact.

Jones,#85, catches the ball pretty well. I remember one drop, it was a big on third down but he also snagged the TD in the corner of the end zone. I liked him during the pre season also. I think we're ok at TE with the three we have.

I think with our receivers banged up having Simms back takes the he pressure off a bit.
