Like say in an ideal world Nnamdi gets released. He is going to want Nate Clements money. Whats to stop us or another team from giving it to him then having it structured so that 80% of that money is dished out in 2010 during the uncapped year and having his upfront be significantly lower?

Like say he wants an $80 million 6 year deal. We pay him $7 million this year then next year the number jumps to $50 million. Then we would only owe him $23 million over the next 4 years. I know that is a lot of money for one year, but wouldn't that skirt the cap if it is in fact reinstated in 2011?

No guarantees 2010 is uncapped...nobody is gonna tie up 50 mil. for 1 season.

I didn't say we should do that I said what is to stop teams from doing that. Also the players association still has no head and they aren't very close. An uncapped 2010 is highly likely at this point.

What stops Miami from dishing out money is our crappy economy. Things are changing and the athletes of all the pro sports are in for a rude awakening.

Hopefully cooler heads prevail and agreements are reached quickly.

This kind of confusion would only lead to the Patriots cheating more than they already do.

Even if there is an uncapped year, the NFL will do everything in its power to create a new CBA, and when that happens, any team that went on a spending spree will likely have to dump a lot of salary to get back under that new salary cap limit - especially if the economy keeps up with its current trend.

That's why it's a bad idea, and that's just a hypothetical situation. Remember 2006? They did everything under the sun and moved back the deadline two or three times just to guarantee there'd be a CBA in place. Roger Goodell's had enough bad things happen under his watch so far (more performance enhancing drug problems, getting burned by the fiasco that is Pacman Jones, the owners opting out of this CBA, needing the NFLPA to find a new president, etc.) - he won't let that happen.

There are more restrictions in place during the uncapped season then normal. It would be a bad idea for both sides to let it go that far. It's really pathetic that the one sport that every other sport wishes to be could possibly allow this to happen.

IMO it would be insane to shell out a s**t load of money in hopes that there will be no cap in 2010. The repercussions could be catstrophic if a new CBA is reached and the cap is still in place.

The fact that there is no garuntee it will be and Ross's financial unstability.
Ross is higher on the Forbes list then Huizenga with over $1.5 billion more dollars. I think he is financially stable.
