The defense fell apart with all those scrubs out there. We saw freaking Kaepernick shred them only to look like garbage vs the Bears. Thought I actually think the schemes were more of an issue than lack of talent

Lets face it. Other than Suh, Wake and Jones we have no play makers on the team. Howard could get there and Alonzo is solid. That's 5 spots and leaves us with holes everywhere else, not to mention we don't have a good slot corner or depth anywhere. Phillips has 1 good game and 3 bad ones. I'm hoping he'll be more consistent next year.

Ozzy rules!!

The d gave up for the season during that break.

Literally packed up and went home for the offseason

Maxwell and IAQ are pretty good, too...when healthy.

It's been a trainwreck since then. Too many ST guys starting. I can't even be mad. Team over achieved. Except for Mario Williams. **** him.

Ever since the game against the 49ers our D got completely exposed, and we showed no answers to it.

The only reason the Cardinals didn't destroy us is because of the rain, so we got lucky there. And the Jets, well, they're the Jets.

But San Francisco, Baltimore, Buffalo, NE and Pittsburgh ALL destroyed our defense. It's pretty depressing.

I don't see the talent in IAQ that everyone else does. He played most of the season and the defense was awful. He's certainly better than Rambo or Thomas but if we have aspirations of reaching the Super Bowl then we should try and upgrade from him. There is a reason Detroit let him walk to sign here for peanuts.

This is what stuck out to me. Joseph didn't change anything. It didn't seem like he even tried to scheme around our weaknesses. I understand that he didn't have much to work with by the end, but the defense was repeatedly exposed by the same types of plays. Even the Steelers today changed it up a little and started with the quick-hitters vs. having Roethlisberger hold the ball...to attack the weaknesses that have been there for everyone to see for the past few weeks.

It's the linebackers.....they don't do a good enough job against the pass or the run. You put some competent linebackers in there and get healthy on the back end, this defense gets much better very quickly

How about not being able to run against bad run defenses?

That's close to how bad the defense has been.

You can scheme around a weakness, not several...you take chances and gamble and hope for the best, sometimes it works out and sometime you get burned, but that is what happen when you have literally one LB that is an NFL talent and just above average one at that, a 3rd and 4th string safety one of which is awful and the other is really only a specials guy. We failed to address specific areas in the offseason and were hit with injuries. **** happens and it sucks, but it is what it is...coach can only do so much.

You don't set the franchise record for yards given up with just a poor performance after week 16.

This unit is in need of dire attention.

Losing IAQ and Maxwell were the final two nails in the defenses coffin. Add in Kiko playing with one hand and we had nothing left.

We lose on most match ups because the players are not nfl starter caliber.
After Ajayi came out and Williams came on, on passing plays they Blitzed at Williams snd won every time.
The same could be said about the LBs and secondary. We were exposed and opposing teams had lots of options against us.
Gase did what he could.
Vance scheme did nothing to help after the Buffalo game. We were out if players.
Ross saw his with his own eyes too. I expect a max effort this offseason to upgrade the defense and plug the holes in oline and RB depth.
