Mediocre record, run first philosophy, 2-5 in the playoffs in the new millenium and too ****ing stupid to not renew his contract with a cheap, meddlesome owner who supposedly thwarted him?

And this guy thinks just because experienced coaches who actually win like Andy Reid, Coughlin, Cowher, and Chuckie are not available to jump in front of him, that he deserves the key to controlling the kingdom?

Gimme a ****ing break!

More of the same conservative mediocrity? Let's move on to the kind of fresh outside the box visions that Ozzie Newsome knew Harbaugh would bring instead of promoting Fatso, his brother, Sean Payton and the like. IMO we dodged a bullet with Fisher and another by Jacksonville hiring Mularkey. So the field of mediocre coaching is at least being winnowed down.

Onward and this time hopefully upward.

Oh, and anyone who wants to use Ireland as a whipping boy on not getting Mr Mediocrity, first of all it's conjecture and even if true and no matter what anyone thinks of Ireland, in this case he definitely did us a service!!!

i agree, i want young blood in here, someone who will be motivated to make us a successful franchise again. jeff fisher= overrated. me personally, i have a big smile on my face knowing he wont be our coach,

I think Ross is a fool. We missed a chance to aquire a proven head coach and the quality assistants he would bring.
Now we are hoping that Ireland, of all people, will be able to determine who will be a great coach from a bunch of obscure assistant coaches. He will go for the "safe" mediocre pick. He will not want to leave any finger prints though, because when this next staff gets run out of town, he will be blameless.
Ireland and Ross are fools IMHO. I have zero respect and faith in them.

Fans are saying that Fisher rejected us because of Ross and Ireland's stuborness, but the truth is that the Miami Dolphins rejected Jeff Fisher by saying "no, you cant have contol over everything, you are not worth it"

Proven what? The only thing Fisher proved is that he will miss the playoff 65% of the time, and thats not acceptable to me

I completely agree. The fact is Fisher is the definition of mediocre.
Some were so desperate to not be ridiculed in the media they were comfortable with average instead of shooting for great while taking a bigger risk.
Much like the new NFL, playing it safe is playing to lose.

Amen! Fisher is average at best and surely not an improvement over Sparano. I am GLAD that Ross did not hire him. Fisher was anointed the "top coaching candidate" by the media - NOT because he earned it from his coaching. Yes, we "dodged a bullet".

I think this adds weight to my theory that Ross never wanted Fisher to begin with. He HAD to interview him because of media and fan pressure to do so. Now that Fisher is behind us, Mr. Ross can hire the "young Don Shula" he said he was looking for. I hope he finds him.

Lets not forget that Fishers only really successful year in the playoffs required one of the biggest fluke plays in NFL history

I'm just happy we didn't lose. The Rams are the big losers now stuck with that mediocre coach. They will continue to get dominated by Harbaugh for the next decade while we'll only have to deal with Belichick and Brady for.. 4 more years sigh.. But at least that's not as bad as the NFC West.

..and the more i think of it (not an original thought since someone's already raised it), just maybe, in his heart of hearts, Fisher knew he didn't have the coaching chops to go up against Belicheat 2X a year or more.

I was admittedly pissed when we lost out on Harbaugh last year. While I would not have minded having Fisher, I personally would have rather had some of other names out there. My strong preference is to get an offensive minded coach that understands the importance of taking advantage of the current state of the NFL where rules our strongly in favor of Offense. I just didn't see Fisher fitting my preference.
