Singletary Presser

Heard the tail end. Didn't even know it was about Davis. What happened?

Davis was being a selfish bum and Singletary demonstrated that he CLEARLY will not tolerate it on his squad. Kinda refreshing to see after so many coaches put up with the bs that so many of these degenerates display(TO, Mucho Stinko, ETC ETC).

But, I gotta wonder, will this **** fly with the whole locker room. If it does, look for San Fran to develope into something as long as he coaches them. If it dosent, it could get ugly out there for the rest of the season. Its all up to the players to get on board or not. High risk, high reward move by Singletary to kick a player off the field and send him into the locker room. These are grown men.

Have to say, I kinda like it by Singletary. If all coaches did this kind of stuff, the league would be alot better.

I love it, but Singletary will find out the hard way, 20 something year old multimillionaires don't care.

i love it,wish more coachs had the balls to do what he's doing

Disagreed with the move if he wants to have success. He singled out one guy, benched his Qb, and gave the media soundbites to laugh at. All in his 1st week as a NFL head coach. Depending on the how guys feel in the lockerroom he could "lose the team." I think he could've done it in a different manor. Publicly humiliating a player doesn't work.

He does sound alot like Samuel L. Jackson though.

As an "african-american...

I think he went way over the top with this. As a new coach, and as an african american coach, you have to remain cool and observe things for a while. We are an emotional people (similar to Italians), you can't act crazy and call out a kid when you are new to coaching. He looked like Denny Green Part II.

He needs to relax and win a few games to build some cred before he goes off again. All that hollering means squat in the NFL especially when you lose.

I think he looked out of control with that rant.

I thought it was great. He made the point...TEAM first, last and always. It's HIS team, and if youre going to play for him, its going to be as part of the TEAM.

Good for him, i hope he wins out

I can't speak to your take to the racial componant, because I'm not AA but I disagree with your take that he looked like Denny Green II. Green was out of control. He completely lost his composure. I thought Mike was losing it but, then, once you really look, he was completely in control. Was he mad? I'm sure he was. He wants the guys to play the way he did. He actually looked more like Ditka than Green.

I like what he said, I just don't think he has the stripes yet to go off like that. He's not guaranteed to continue coaching out there in that spot, he's interim from what I hear. So he needs win some games and remain in control in front of the media, you can save the Lombardi speeches for the locker room.

I'm a big Singletary fan, I just don't want him to freak out like that so early in the game (in his career).

what I am unclear on is that Davis slapped a seattle player on the back of his helmet but isnt this what some players do after making a play ? I see it all the time so I am little unclear on how is slapping another the helmet a bad thing . but i think athletes and superstars need to stop getting the preferencial treatment , ( sorry for the spelling error )

Vernon Davis is an idiot, last coach had problems with him also. As a caucasian-american (I guess that seems to matter), I absolutely LOVED IT. I made my son watch it, not sure he got too much out of it (he is 4 months old), called up my nephew (who I feel dogs it too much in football), and told him to watch it.....

I do not feel there is enough of this type of guy in sports or in everyday life, Singletary is a no-nonsense guy, that I would make a deal with on a hand shake, and know it was good as gold. Make fun of it if you will, I have a new, second favorite team, Go Niners!

I have very few man-crushes....Singletary is one of them. Jim Jensen is another. Singletary is like a football god to me.

Na, he definately hit him in the front of the helmet. It wasn't the situation you've described.

I didn't watch the game because the 9ers vs Seahawks is about as exciting as watching grass grow. Though just on the highlights the pick 6 thrown by O'Sullivan, Davis was the only player sprinting to catch the Seahawks player.

My guess is that the reaction by Singletary wasn't only for what happened during the game. I don't think what Singletary did works in the NFL. We're supposed to be idealistic and think that it was good to discipline a guy for a mental mistake. Though Singletary also took one of the few weapons the 9ers have out of the game. From my knowledge this was the 1st time i've heard of Davis causing problems. Guys in college or high school may respond but professionals don't, IMO.

I heard on the radio driving home from work that Singletary said something to him coming off the field and Davis was like, "Get out of my face". Then Singletary went over to him on the bench, and Davis said, "I said get away from me" OR "I said get out my face with that". After that, Singletary told him to take it to the locker room.

Don't know if this is true, but that's what the sports host was saying....790AM in Atlanta sports show
