I can't remember life before Sirius radio. I bought it for the 65 commercial-free music channels but now I'm stuck on channel 124 NFL Radio. What's good is they have so many hosts with different areas of expertise.
Dan Reeves (currently on sabbatical working for thr Texans): has head coach and GM experience, knows everyone in the business, and has seen situations in the NFL for 39 years.
Randy Cross: He's pretty solid, he doesn't subscribe to rumors but he can be blase' and biased at times. Knows about championships has TV experience and lots of old-school friends.
Cris Carter(on sabbatical): Knows lots about his aquanitances and WR's. Same with Keyshawn who has a small show.
Tiki and Ronde Barber: Have an excellent spot. They are very thoughtful, interesting, and opinionated. Plus, they are current players like Johnson.
Shannon Sharpe(on sabbatical now too?): One of the best personalities. Knows a lot about football psychology and of course knows all of his buddies and coaches like Carter.
Tim Ryan: Understands football in the trenchas as a former DL. Tons of attitude and polish from his Fox Color work. Loves the Steelers though and encourages that absolutely nauseating inferiority complex riddled bunch to call-in incessantly. Pittsburgh has as many callers as all 31 other teams combined especially on his show and they all ask the same stupid questions over and over and... I wish more Dolphin fans would call in because they talk about whatever team the callers bring up. We all know Cowhers' shoe size and grandmother's maiden-name...
Pat Kirwan: Intriguing host was a player, coach, and GM. He can get specific about contract and GM strategies. He works well with Ryan and others and is very polite to callers. Kirwan writes on NFL.com. Ryan and Kirwan also get specific about X's and O's and the more complex subtleties of football especially defense.
Carl Banks: One-time Saban player has great insight to all things Parcells coaching-tree related. Great interview with Nick. Tends to get opinionated and soap-boxy at times. Makes sense sometimes.
Solomon Wilcotts: New guy has player experience and lots of TV experience. He's a bit too starchy but is always focused on football facts. Laugh a little Solly!
Adam Schein: Premier non-NFL personality on Sirius. Schein can talk for literally four hours without missing a word. He has an opinion on everything and loves to exaggerate it. He is an expert, just ask him, even though the guys he is talking to have all played and managed football from within. He asks very personal questions of the many football guests and sometimes even gets answers. He never doesn't try to get a scoop. He's very smooth and entertaining.
John Riggins: Best known for flattening Miami in the Superbowl, Riggo is a special radio personality. He blends well with Schein as he is thoughtful and contemplative. A very intelligent man, he can carry on conversations in which he debates with himself both sides of an issue. And wins! He thinks up perpectives which no-one else has considered.
Gil Brandt: Also writes on NFL.com. Simply put, this man knows as much about the NFL as any man alive. He was GM of Dallas in their early Superbowl years and has been around before and since. A scouting genius, he's known every player since they were in junior-high school. He has an endless trunk-full of startling facts about NFL teams dating back to their inception. I have trouble understanding him though as his voice is very mumbly. Too bad, he's good.
Bob Pappa etc.: Pappa(sp?) leads the crew of play-by-play radio hosts who spend the day engageging the above experts in conversation. Pappa, more than some offers insight from his experience as the voice of the NYG. Other hosts just ask questions but do not provide much insight themselves.
Guests: Probably 100 players have been interviewed during the past year. They also interview head coaches, assistants, former players, GM's, scouts, owners, writers, doctors, officials, announcers including Madden, league reporters, youth football experts, and they have a fantasy football show. Dolphins I have heard interviewed are Seau, McMicheal, Chambers, Taylor, Carter, and Saban. Other teams allow more info to get out to the media than Saban's crew. Also Brees, Gonzalez, Sapp, Chad Johnson, Fitzgerald, and many other players and several coaches all have weekly interviews.
Each 1/2 hour there is a football news update. Along with some annoying commercials.
It's great that I can listen to most of their programming while at work. Again I hope more Dolphins fans get on and call in, that way I can learn more about my team and we'll take away some of the snivelling Steelers' fans airtime. See you there 1-877-NFL-KICK.
