After last season, Miami Dolphins coach Tony Sparano was upfront about what his playoff team needed to get to the next level — get "bigger and stronger."

Based on roster moves the team has made the past few weeks the Dolphins are closer to achieving Sparano's goals.

Recently signed center Jake Grove set a Virginia Tech record for bench pressing nearly 500 pounds as a college senior in 2001. New defensive tackle Tony McDaniel, acquired from Jacksonville last week, is a hulking, yet athletic 6-foot-7, 310-pounder the Dolphins tentatively plan to play as an end.

Talking with reporters at the NFL owners meetings in Dana Point, Calif., on Tuesday, Sparano emphasized that strengthening the offensive line was critical for survival in the AFC East.

Upsizing with players that are injury prone have been the last 3 moves hope that strength progam that the Dolphins team have has more magic in it than the teams than those players came from.

They must be pretty good, last season we had far less players on the weekly injury reports than anyone else. It wasn't even close.

The situation with Grove seems so strikingly similar to Smiley's great production when healthy, but.......

this Fo no what they want,im loveing it how they'er going about it, the afc wont no what hit them reall SOON.lol

Injury bugs can kill a season, look what happend last year when we lost most of our interior line to injury.

Lets hope the guys we are taking a chance on can stay on the field.

Hey they got Ronnie Brown to finally play a whole season....why not the other guys.

Just cant over work them. Keep em fresh and rotate them.

I don't think it's the strength program alone. Remember, the coaching staff keeps a play count for each player, like they do for baseball pitchers, and limit the number of plays they take.

Nice article, good read. We need rotation and have backups with size as well. We can wear on a team and in the heat of South Florida, we will have a huge advantage

Yea, we won 9 of 10. All seriousness though i agree but i think depth plays a huge role, not just the starters. i love us getting and trading for no names that have huge upsides. we can save money and become a better team all around. that said i really think we need to address the CB for this season, and NT and ILB spot with young prospects, to start by '10 season.
