I just spent 3 hours(from 2:00 a.m til 5:00 a.m) discussing "how well travis daniels has played considering......" I'm dumbfounded, and a little hungover(trying to stay drunk because of loss of electricity; hurricane)These people are trying 2 convince me somehow that he is playing good.Their point is that 4 a rookie, he's holding his own. Are u kidding me? I don't care if he's a 1st, 4th or last round pick, he's not playing "well".And the argument(which many of them tried 2 drag me into)whether he's betterthan Howard is not the point! Howard is god awful, but let's be honest, Daniels isn't far behind! And i'm admitting that a rookie should struggle, but please stop telling me how good he's playing. One person pointed out that he has 4 pass defenses. Whoopie!! In 6 games? When there's a missed tackle or a third down conversion, usually #25 and#21 are the main culprits!I've watched the fins 4 30 years. I've seen the good and the ugly.Does J.B. Brown and Paul Lankford ring a disturbing bell? The old bend, but don't break defense.Welcome back!!! We all knew when we first got a glimpse or Jamar fletcher(we didn't need Brees) that he was bad! Please tell me what u see in Daniels that's any different! Can't stop the slant route, can't tackle, can't support the run! Tell me, what can he do??? Bottom line, our offensive line and d.b's suck! No more excuses!

Again, explain 2 me what well means? Is not defending the receiver in front of u (3rd down conversions, slant patterns for touchdowns) considered playing well. Or r u saying he's playing better than Howard, which isn't saying much! Again that's not the argument, though.

hmm where to begin....1st of all stop mentioning jamar fletcher as if we couldve gotten rivers instead 2totally different drafts...2nd noone is saying tdaniels is playing at a pro bowl level we are saying FOR A 4TH ROUND ROOKIE he has performed very well.....3rd that thread was to see what ppl thought of getting orton instead of tdan then u go off on ur ramblings of daniels is horrible....4th let it go dude u clearly think daniels is horrible and i doubt almost anyone agrees with u is it really worth all this fuss:confused:

yo... keep the beer flowin. :drinker:

However, I am gunna disagree with you on Daniels. Now I am not saying he is playing well, but he is playing well for a 4th round rookie and exceeding expectations. He wasnt brought in to be the starter this year... Will Poole was supposed to be that guy. Daniels was drafted to be our #3 CB and maybe rotate at safety. He is not ready to go against starting WRs. Unfortunatly, that is the situation we are in so Daniels has to be the #2.

He definatly struggles against quick slants. But from what I have seen (havent really seen the past 2 games... I was at the Bucs and of course didnt see the KC game) he seems to be a very solid tackler. I remember being very impressed in the first couple games with his open-field tackling. Like I said, I havent really seen the past 2 games, so if he has been terrible tackling lately, I havent seen it.

Also remember, he has an interception which is 1 more than all of these guys who were first rounders:
Antrel Rolle
Adam "Pacman" Jones
Carlos Rogers
Fabian Washington
Marlin Jackson

Just relax... drink another beer... and look forward to the future...

I would love 2 get off of it, and get some sleep! But it kills me, what in the world does "has played very well mean"? And pay attention, Brees and Fletcher were in the same draft! We passed on him and took fletcher the bust! You're right, we don't need to groom a young q.b. Let's keep getting retreads!

u answered my question! I'm not comparing him 2 anyone else. Is he playing well in general? No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Did jamar fletcher play in a similar fashion(1st rd. pick)his 1st year? Where is he now? Tell me what qualities Daniels has?

I meant Brees. Same difference.

not really ,but ok.....and that was wannys fault i guarantee almost all of us wanted brees with that pick i know i did......but it didnt workout that way and wanny ****ed up again ,but all thats in the past we got a new coach and a new gm.....lets move on and look at the future.

Again, i'm the biggest fishfan there is.But just don't tell me that daniels is playing well. Please!!!!! And that's the argument. It doesn't matter what round he was takin in, he has played terrible! Just like the rest of the secondary, except 4 Lance. Nighty, night!!!!!!!!!

For a 4th round draft pick, Daniels is playing ok. For a STARTING CB, or even a typical nickel corner, Daniels is playing bad. There is no way around it. BUT, he is all we have. The other option is worse.

Qualities:
He is a larger more physical corner, which are they type that are required and prefered for Sabans D. He also has very good hands for a DB (I think he might be a WR turned DB). He is a very good tackler and I have been impressed with his open-field tackling...

Now...
Look at the WRs that are beatin him... Galloway, Moulds... these guys are veteran WRs that just know how to go after a rookie...

Daniels will be beat, abused, and picked on all season. Its what happens to rookie CBs. However, what you must do is not judge his performance in a game, but compare his performance to games prior. You want to see progression. If he is progressing, that is what you want. You arnt gunna get a "shutdown" rookie CB in the 4th round... it aint gunna happen.
