The Miami Dolphins' draft selections of cornerbacks Vontae Davis and Sean Smith make a lot of sense when you consider the AFC East wide receivers they will be going up against, a list which includes Randy Moss and the always adorable Terrell Owens. Physicality is a must-have if you don't want to be watching them blow by you. While Davis is a smaller 5-foot-11, he can crush a receiver. Smith, however, seems to have the perfect body to match up against a No. 1 receiver. It could explain why he has jumped to the first team in organized team activities.

It is no suprise that Smith is doing what he is doing. We all knew he could cover and with his size he can lock most WR down. HOWEVER, the ???? on him is him being PHYSICAL. I posted some comments about him from a scouting buddy of mine. He hit is right on the head. If Smith can be as physical as his size would allow him to be he MIGHT be one of the FUTURE PREMIER corners in the NFL. The kid can cover there is no question about that.
Lets wait and see what happens over the next 3 months with him

I read the same thing about smith. On a positive note. It is much easier to teach a player to tackle than it is to cover. Coverage skills are more of a God given talent wich he has plenty of.

While tackling is an aspect of that physicality, the main issue seems to be his willingness to get physical with WR's inside of that 5-yard bump zone.

Yeah Sean Smith's down fall is his physicality.. He sucks at tackling and sure tackles dont seem so sure...Im confident in his convering skills but i just feel like he is really gonna have to work on jamming the line this year

Yeah Ive seen him line up to tackle and wasnt too sure how to approach the hit... Like Vontae if he has a clear path at the hit hes gonna clear the guy out the screen but I think sean smiths tackling woos is all mental...that a his body is a bit small in size but that can improve by kickoff

I just want to make sure that we play the best guy.
If Smith is better than Davis in the NFL, then I want Smith to start.
Some teams would give Davis is the start period just because he was a 1st round pick.
It's perfect really, because it pushes Davis to be the best NFL player he can be. And he needs to be pushed.

To say i'm giddy about Smith and Davis is the understatement of the century.

Smith didnt take over first team duties as this article suggests. Sparano said there is a rotation at the other CB spot. Per his press conference, he said they rotate with the first team by days, meaning V. Davis practices with the first team for a few days, and then Smith for a few, and then Green, ect. It just happened to be Smith's turn the other day. Coach said they do this to see how they match up against different receivers, and they dont tell the CB's when it will be their turn to run with the first team.

Its not exactly easy to teach someone to tackle who doesnt like to tackle.

To be fair, he's only been playing D for 2 or 3 years. He seems like a willing learner, and that's one thing he'll have to learn if he wants to play in Miami.

who was that shut down corner who could never tackle.. i think he played for the cowboys.. than the falcons.. than the cowboys.. hmmmm than the redskins, and finally came back out of retirement for the ravens, ok ok ill tell everyone Deion Sanders, YES Prime Time soo if he has these god given talents that everyone thinks he has im not to worried about his tackling, but if hes not the saviour for the team... that everyones hoping for because of a couple OTA's than i hope Todd bowles shows him some of the ropes =/
