A few series later during the 90-play "standup scrimmage" – meaning there would be no tackling to the ground – rookie second-rounder Sean Smith made the kind of play that can only help his bid to win the starting cornerback job opposite veteran Will Allen.

Also,Solai is starting to click....

Then there was Paul Soliai, the backup nose tackle who wound up nearly 35 yards downfield on Ginn's ill-fated throwback pass (the day's only interception). Stunning as this was, the 340-pounder was right where he was supposed to be.

"I had to hustle and be around there," Soliai said.

When was the last time he got that far downfield on a pass play?

"Might be the first time and the last time," Soliai said, smiling, "but I did my best."

....but as I said many times,in 2 years, hes only got 6 tackles.....4th string CBs have more than that in a season, let alone 2.I wont be impressed w/ him til he is actually starting.

I don't get why that ONE play by soliai keeps getting mentioned over and over on these boards...

Ok, so its good that he hustled down field on one play, but is he so pathetically lazy that it's really THAT big of a deal?

Maybe its cus guys like you keep calling him lazy so they have to emphasis this over and over?

Hey man, it's like when Wilford actually makes a catch! It's a BIG DEAL...hehe

If the Trio didn't see something there, we would have drafted for that position and he would have BEEN gone.

Jason Allen continues to not impress.

Being unimpressive is Jason Allen's best quality. I love the fact that he just never gives up on being totally and completely underwhelming. It's a testament to his work ethic, the guy never quits.

On another note, it doesn't surprise me in the least that Sean Smith is outperforming Vontae Davis in camp, it is what I expected from day one. Sean Smith might turn out to be the best corner that came out of this draft. Mark my words, the kid is going to be a beast.
At the same time, I was never in love with Vontae during the draft process. I mean, you have to love his physical ability and tenacity, but I'm worried about his hot headed nature and I'm afraid that he might just be a "workout warrior" without much actual on the field ability... Much like his brother.

It's probably more to do with the fact that he was able to keep up with Ronnie Brown.

you seem to have misunderstood my post

i am simply asking why 1 play has been mentioned over and over more than any other...

i really have no opinion on the player himself

 Ouch

I think Smith is a rare talent and I still have no idea how he fell to us. But I think he'll start off a bit ahead of Vontae, and somewhere down the road Vontae will catch up.

I think sean smith has qualities of cromartie! They are going down a simular path.. I believe he might have a simular impact this season... vontae is going to be special, don't lose sight of him just yet..

Please elaborate, I have yet to see any reports of him having a "Hot" head.

I'm guessing he means like the rumors of him saying " I dont need practice " and that kind of stuff.. don't think those are true though. It would show in camp if it were, because we probably have the toughest camp in football right now and Vontae is doing just fine, and not complaining one bit.
