With Smith missing a game, I have the two about even, with Smith having a slight edge. As another poster mentioned, he is more polished in coverage. I give Davis the nod in run support.

The Bucs' game is going to to big for both, and maybe even the Saints game. It would be so nice to see the Saints play their starters more than a series or two. That would be a challenge for either.

Your picks, and will the other be the nickel back?

I think it's practically written in Stone that Smith is the starter. If Vontae isn't the nickel back right away, he will be by week 7.

I could really see us sliding W. Allen in to cover the slot and sticking Vontea out wide in certain situations.

Smith will start this year, and eventually Davis will replace Allen. Davis will be starting in the nickel by EOY...

I'm not as sure as you. I thought Davis played as well in game 2, as Smith did in game 1. I believe it's still open.

I think Smith will start but they will be matched up a lot depending on who we are facing. It would seem Smith is good for the big receivers like Moss, TO, Andre Johnson. Vontae can play the nickel CB and be very good against guys like Welker, Roscoe Parrish etc.

Smith all the way.... I wanna see what he does with some stud Wide Outs...

idk davis is very physical as is smith but davis is more the gambler and plays the WR more then the ball, Smith always plays the ball.

Smith will likely be the starter, but Davis will get plenty of playing time also.

I LOVE this competition. Both are gonna be playing their "donkeys" off on Thurs night.

This post is Mod friendly. :)

Yeah, from what I've seen, watching both very closely, Davis takes a WR away in step for step blanket coverage. Smith is there but, it seems like he would prefer the ball thrown his way.

Understand, neither is covering a Moss, TO, or anyone remotely resembling the like. Also, the QB's we've faced are average at best.

However, all they can do is look good with who they are up against, and they have.

Atlanta, Peyton, and Rivers may take them back to school. We shall see.

possibly next year...
