Snap counts, etc

Surprising Nik Needham got no snaps. Also surprised we didn't use Malcolm Perry at all with all the reports of how well he did in camp.

With Parker probably out, it will be interesting to see if Perry or Bowden gets some PT to see if they can spark some explosive plays.

I can only assume Needham is dinged up in some way.

KVN didn't see many snaps. That surprised me.

A few things surprised me...
-Sieler hardly seeing the field
-Gaskins stealing so many snaps from Breida and Howard
-Van Noy only 1 more snap than Robert's
-I've already mentioned Breida but it was so late by the time he got in the game I thought he was injured.

It seems like personnel mismanagement by the coaches. Something they seem to be bad at, evidenced by Bobby McCain continuing at safety.

Hopefully they get better at it but up until now there have been red flags.

Actually PFF, and every other stat mill I've seen, had McCain rated very good for the game.

It's fine if you don't like the guy, but as far as this game goes, which is what this article was about (if you bothered reading it), he did pretty well.

Definitely went away from Jordan Howard quickly. Gaskins play was encouraging. I want to see more of Breida.

Should be seeing more of Breida...if you believe the coaches.

I would have expected to see Lawson and Van Noy's play sheet flipped. I figured Van Noy would be one of the few constants in the front 7.

The Rowe/McCain combo was pretty bad at times last season so we'll see how it plays out this year. With the front 7 getting torn up all night I'm not sure it mattered as much who was playing deep against the Pats. Kinda get the feeling this will be a reoccurring theme this season against teams that have the personnel to run.

I'm not sure there's to much you can read into the offensive side of things until Tua is thrown out there. I have to imagine it will look completely different with him at the helm, for better or worse.

I dont go with pff as the bible for football ratings. With any really. Just the eyeball test from watching Dolphins games for the last 2 decades plus.

And I never said anything about how he played Monday, I mentioned him clearly playing out of position which would be poor personnel management once again as I mentioned.

I dont hate the guy but we are doing the team a disservice by having him be a safety. He cant hit, he has lost whatever speed he had to begin with in order to cover the deep ball, and he is not physical or able enough to cover TE's or WR's 1 on 1 as shown from his demotion from slot corner.

The one thing he has in spades is leadership but that does not mean he should be on the field.

I dont hate the guy but we are doing the team disservice by having him be a free safety. He cant hit, he has lost whatever speed he had to begin with to cover the deep ball, and he is not physical or able enough to cover WR's 1 on 1 as shown from his demotion from slot corner.
I take the PFFs of the world with a grain of salt too.

I also don't think he's a great choice for the safety spot, but you aren't going to be able to fix everything all at once.

I guess I just don't see it as personnel mismanagement, so much as just not having a stud to play the position yet.

Obviously he is limited physically, but they say he is a good communicator, and is assignment sound. Both necessary in that spot, in this scheme.

What I hope they are doing, is leaving Bobby McCain in to bring in Brandon Jones slowly. The guy seems like he could jump into the position already but bringing him up slowly would be smart. If that were the case, it would not really be personnel mismanagement and would actually be the smart thing to do. Only time will tell I guess.

Hmmm....

I think I like Jones playing closer to the line than that would allow.

I hope we draft someone next year for that spot.

I do wonder, given what we have now, if Rowe might fare better there.

I don’t know how McCain is still on this team. Coach prefers McCain over minka at safety. Head scratcher for sure.
