So......how was Hard Knocks??

Yep, just like I've listened to managers explain to employees why they didn't get a promotion. "It's not over yet, blah blah blah". Clearly Tannehill is not making a name for himself out there.

Clearly you're only seeing what you want to see. I wasn't a huge fan of the pick either, but he's done far better than I expected thus far.

it was pretty awesome...philbin whispering to sherman after tannys first day throwing "the kid threw the ball really well" with that look in his eyes like i'm damn impressed...hard not to like chad johnsons personality after watching that...it's growing on me...les brown if he's on the ground as much as i saw on that episode we can't carry him...too much liability should be able to get that kid on the p squad if we want cause i can't see that kid helping anyone this year off what i saw...get to see the guys as people also which is interesting and gives you a bit of a soft spot for them...ocho better not drop any more f bombs i can tell ya that...impressed with philbin to date also...no sugar coating which is what these players need...i guess the vontae things no longer a mystery they demand more out of him...they see the elite talent

I think if you are a fin fan you will love this show. I agree with MP-Omnis that I would like to see Joe have more conviction when dealing with Chad. And also the depth chart speech...both times he seemed a little timid. Don't know if it was doing that stuff on camera or what, but he spoke very stern and with conviction in the coaches meeting and the interviews around the Chad talk, but really softballed it when he spoke to Chad. Love his intellect, and really feel impressed with the overall coaching staff. They are young and hungry and if he can build a winner we may be set for years. Us old guys remember Shula keeping a core staff for most of his career. But I think Joe Philbin and this staff will give us an improved team and was a good choice.
As far as the players, I think they missed showing some interesting guys like Cam Wake, and Richie Incognito. I expected more Bush (yeah make the jokes) since he is a national name. I think Chad Johnson will star this year. I really do. He seems in better shape and works harder than anyone. I like when Philbin said to him "I tell people when I come in you are here 10 minutes before anyone". Jake Long is a more vocal leader than I realized which was great to see.
This will get really interesting as cuts come and preseason games are played. Then I think we will get a better feel for the QBs, Vonta, etc. etc. All in all a great preseason gift for Dolphins fans.

philbin did fine with both those scenarios...the players got the message...johnson knows not to do it again or there will be penalties...you don't have to be a dictator all the time...the players want to feel like you genuinely care for them...

handled it all fine...

I really liked the show but only as an addition to the news that I get here and other places. If this was your only source for news, the team would look pretty screwed up. I liked it more for the entertainment value and catching live video of practices ... didn't expect to learn much new. I hope Vontae can get in shape and fight for playing time as it will make him better; I hope Les Brown makes it on the PS and eventually becomes a playmaker for us someday.

Yeah but it was before practice, wasn't it? Seemed like he was beating around the bush a little bit. I dunno. But at least it's handled.

Does Jake Long remind anyone else a little bit of George Corpsegrinder Fisher?

Ya know, no matter how directly or indirectly Coach Joe addressed Chad is less important than that he did and why. Unlike all those F bombs firing off during Bluto's Hard Knox season and the continuing cancerous clubhouses, Philbin understands he's the custodian of the legacy and impressions count. Pragmatically, with the cameras rolling, you don't come out and rip someone like Chad another ayehole for doing what comes naturally. The most persuasive sales people are the ones who guide their prospects into forming the desired conclusions without force-feeding their own wills on them. I like Philbin just fine. He's a man with a plan and the conviction and respect necessary to achieve it.

Most interested in the fact that Jeff Ireland still uses Internet Explorer, can see it when he's looking at Tannehill's player page. No wonder the team's transactions haven't been great the past few offseasons, by the time Ireland's email loads with player transaction news, the free agents are already signed.

That was a player management software, not internet exporer. But yea, it looks a little out-dated

I thought it was interesting how the QB coach answered Philbin's question about which QB's have the respect of the team. Seems like Matt Moore has a big leg up there and I suspect its going to help him come game time. The show also painted a good picture of Tannehill, and I'm convinced there's no way this guy isnt the #2 QB on the depth chart by the season opener.

I wonder how many teams will be copying Philbin's workaround of the new practice rules. He had 2 simultaneous scrimmages going on that were synchronized to run a play every 40 seconds. Pretty thrifty way to get more reps in with the new practice rules.

Wouldn't exactly call it a cussing tirade. Some people just cuss when theyre around friends.

Yeah. Me.

I've never heard Jake Long say a cuss word in my life and he said like 5-6 of them in 20 secs. I thought that was awesome. What's the issue?

Loved it...for many reasons.

1. Philbin taking control of his team early without becoming to much of a dictator type. He's not afraid to let even the leaders of the team know that they need to step it up. Accountability. He may be a rookie head coach, but it already feels like he's been a head coach in the league for a while. He's definitely got the team's attention and respect.

2. Chad just being Chad. He knows he needs to step it up after basically taking last season off. I think that humbled him, but not to the point where he's going still being his outspoken self. I like that Philbin took control of the F-bomb situation. Gotta maintain some sort of professionalism especially when dealing with the media. Other than that, he looks great out there. He's definitely closer to his best years in Cinci than were he was last season.

3. Jake just oozing leadership. He knows the OLine needs to be a LOT better than it has in recent years especially with this fast pace offense. Glad to see see him step up like that.

4. Great to see that we're not going to let the guys get away with being outta shape. Jerry's story is unfortunate...eating his way out of the league. Vontae's immaturity is getting the best of him. He may have gotten away with it during Sparano's time, but if he wants to stay on top, he's going to bust his ass and earn it.

5. The pace of the offense is just awesome. I love the fact that he has TWO offensive sets working on the field at the same time. It's great to see the Miami Dolphins are finally evolving on offense! No more play not to lose. It may not happen this year, but give it a year or so along a few additions at the playmaking positions, and this O can be top 10 very soon.

6. Les Brown while a tremendous athlete has a lot of work to do and QUICK! He's definitely a liability out there when he's not catching passes. His blocking leaves a lot to be desired. Hopefully he can get that cleaned up soon because he's a nice story.

7. The quarterbacks story is definitely going to be intriguing in the next few weeks. People need to realize that the depth chart is not a finished product. May the best man win it. Whether it be one of the vets (Moore, Garrard) or the rook, so be it. Tannehill WILL get his chance soon enough to start soon enough. Whether it's week 1 of this week or week 16, when he DOES get out there, I believe he's going to kick ass out there. I say this with cautious optimism as a lot can change between training camp and the regular season, but he's definitely got the tools to succeed as a pro QB.

8. Glad to see Reggie ahead of last year's pace in training camp. He's still gotta clean up those occasional bonehead fumbles, but I could see him thriving in this offense. While he may not reach 1,000 yards rushing again, I expect him to become more involved in the passing game. I just pray he remains healthy again.

9. For the next episode, I'd love to see a little bit more focus on the defensive side of the football. If all goes well, the D can be a top 10 unit in the league. We're going to need a lot more playmaking ability out there, though. We can't have the same dropped interceptions and big play susceptibility that has plagued this team in recent years.

10. All in all, a pretty good first episode. I hope the cameras don't become too much of a distraction. I doubt Philbin lets that happen, though. He realizes that this is a crucial time for Miami Dolphins football and he's going to get the best out of his team. A lot of organization between Philbin and the rest of his coaching staff. I haven't felt this good about our coaching situation in several years. There's a lot of positive vibes out there and for good reason. The future looks good with Philbin leading the team and hopefully the future includes the upcoming season!

I still haven't watched but I'm hearing bad things about Philbin from non phin fans.

That was the fastest hour of television I ever watched!!! The time really flew by, kinda like the first time I went to a strip club, lol. I wish each episode was at least an hour and a half...
