The world is yours
Well, as true as it might be, the title is a bit unrelated to the actual topic of this thread... Attention grabbing though, yes?
At any rate, through my early morning Natty Light festivities (a favorite of Chad Henne - http://drunkathlete.com/wp-content/...nne-michigan-wolverines-2-drunk-pictures1.jpg) I realized that I had not contributed an individual thought to this site in a while. Being an avid Dolphins fan and an influential writer of Le Batardian (just kidding) proportions, this notion disappointed me, and I decided that there is no time like the present to propagate my aforementioned original thought into the finheaven stratosphere.
Anyone who pays the least bit of attention to my posts knows that I am pretty low on our receiving corps. I think that Ted Ginn has not completely come into his own yet, but even down the road I do not envision him being anymore than a complimentary role playing deep threat and #2 receiver. I am a very big Davone Bess fan, I think that he is another Wes Welker in the making. So with that, just like Welker, Bess will have to do much of his damage out of the slot being unable to burn defenders on the outside.
Outside of those two guys we have big question marks on our roster at the receiver position. What will we get out of Camarillo coming off of a bad knee injury towards the end of last season? Can we rely on getting anything resembling consistent play from either of the two rooks we drafted out of USC and Ohio St. respectively? Can Brandon London ever become anything more than an overhyped finheaven superstar? (ZOMG!!!!1)
But as I have addressed, even with all of these questions in our receiving corps we still have what I think would be two very suitable players at the #2 and #3 receiver positions. I'm sure we can squeeze something out of a combination of Camarillo, Turner, Hartline and London with one of those players surely being cut or practice squadded (not a word) to round out the roster.
All of this leaves us with our biggest question yet : Who can be the #1 receiver going forward? Well, this thread would be lacking a punch line and fairly worthless if I was to not propose an answer. So, while bracing myself for much hate and disregard in response, I make my suggestion.
Plaxico Burress.
All of the latest news suggests that the man's case is going to trial, a trial which by all accounts will not take place until after the 2010 Super Bowl. This obviously means that, pending legal proceedings, Burress has at least one year of football to contribute before he hits the can.
Burress is a number one receiver in every sense of the phrase. He carried a Giants passing attack which was otherwise abysmal and headed up by a bonehead in Eli all the way to the Super Bowl in 07-08. He goes deep, he goes over the middle, he goes up and gets the ball, and he doesn't need to be "open" to make a play on the ball and make a catch. Basically, he's a quarterback's dream.
Being someone who gambled on the Giants during their super bowl run and benefited greatly from it, I know that there is no way that the Giants come close to winning that Super Bowl without Plax.
Am I saying that Plax is a long term solution, or anything more than a stop gap? Absolutely not, chances are fairly decent that after this year the guy will be out of football for good. But we need a #1 badly to bolster this offense THIS YEAR. I feel like we are that close offensively to being really special, and if we were to add Plax to this mix, the O could be a force to be reckoned with.
If he is suspended this season (which I doubt) this whole thread is a waste of time. I'm just saying though, for now, I certainly would not hate the move! Thoughts?
