Could anyone see Y.Bell as one ? I know T.Tillman sure doesn't look like a SS. Both those guys had awesome seasons in a reserve role but isn't Hill the best pure tackler in our secondary ? Lemme know what ya think. Thanx!

i thought Y.Bell would be the starter but you never know

i see Y bell more like a situational player. he can blitz or drop back in obvious passing situations. i dont think saban wants to over use him to expose his weaknesses such as durability and inexperience. R Hill is a solid vet and provides some stability in the backfield

At this point of the season, I would think Bell would be #1 on the depth chart, he was an awesome blitzer last year, has good range for the deep ball, and actually was the cause of a lot of saved games during the 6 game winning streak. He made a lot of good stops either pass D. or blitzes during that stretch. His tackling seem to be strong to me. I'm not sure if Saban sees him as a long term solution, last year was about his experience, this year is another year and we have to see how it plays out.

there is no SS or FS in the dolphins defense, theres a Safety and a Safety

Renaldo Hill will either be our starting safety next to Jason Allen, or the "Star" 5th DB, who is on the field nearly 50% of the time. He has experience with Saban, and picked up 89 tackles for the Raiders last season. He is a player. Right now, I am thrilled with our depth at DB, because going into the offseason, I was relatively comfortable with Tillman and Bell starting at the safety spots, based on their play last year. Both were impressive. Now, it looks as if they could very well end up backing up both safety spots. Both are excellent special team players as well. Thats not even taking into account Deke Cooper, who started in the place of Donovan Darius for the Jags and has the athleticism to be a decent player.

The one new addition to the secondary I am not totally familiar with is Andre Goodman, who I feel is being overlooked. What I do know is he is the first DB Nick signed, he was given a 3 year deal, he had 3 INTs last season, starting for the Lions and he has excellent speed. I am very interested in seeing what he can do.

If you think about it, Will Poole and Shirdonya Mitchell are also the equivalent of "new additions" to the secondary, so our depth is really very good in that area.

I don't think he is the front runner right now. Someone like Tillman or Bell is probably the front runner. The DB battles will be very interesting to watch because we have so many guys that will have a good shot at starting. If he doesn't win, then we will probably be seeing him in the nickel package playing the 3rd corner, safety or even LB. He did play LB in the nickel package last year with the Raiders by the way.

I was under the impression it would be Deke Cooper at SS (or the artist formerly known as SS) and probably Jason Allen at the other Safety position. Then you have Tillman, Hill and Bell for depth.

What kinda crazy defense is this then ??? That's Madness !!! hehehe
If theres no FS or SS then theres a CS & TS. ( C for cover, T tackle )

I'm very interested in what JD Coop has to offer but I would be absolutley shocked and perhaps concerned if he were to start at Strong Safety.

I guess, since we don't get an official depth chart from the phins until the first pre season game, we really don't know who it'll be, right now Bell and Tillman are the left overs from last year, weather they hold on to those positions is a wait and see event. Since our 1st draft pick has played mostly safety so far in camp, it looks like one of those guys is targeted to be a backup..unless Allen can't catch on as expected.

not positive but R.Hill was either 1st or 2nd on the raiders in tackles last season.

Ok! Now I'm officially getting old... I kept thinking to myself who the hell gives a damn about Randall "Thrill" Hill, that POS wide receiver that never did anything for the Phins???
