Glory Glory to Ole Georgia
I've had the Super Fan package with the Ticket for a while, but today I finally watched the Shortcut game. At first, I thought it would be lame, but watching a game in 30 mins with just the plays allows you to see many aspects of the game. It's not the film the team looks at, but it's pretty sweet. Now onto the game, here are some things that I noticed about Jax. Some of this is what is already known, but I'll try to highlight some different things that I haven't seen mentioned.
1) Maurice Jones-Drew is for real. First let me talk about him as a kick returner. The guy constantly gets the team into good field position. He's very shifty and stupid fast. Now the running game. Jax is very committed to the running game. They had a drive where they didn't attempt a single pass. They gashed the defense with Fred Taylor, and then gave it to Jones-Drew for the last 35+ yards. Then the following drive, they ran the ball the first four times before attempting a play action pass with Garrard. Also another point about Jones-Drew is the guy finishes off runs like a much bigger back. He was punishing guys in the Bills' secondary. Fred Taylor looked really good too, so our defense will have their hands full with these two.
2) The Jags defense is VERY aggressive. They are highly susceptible to reverses, counters, and screen passes. McGahee scored on a cut back run to the left that was so open because the ENTIRE defense followed the play to the right side of the field. I think Mularkey will be extra tricky this game. We might have some double reverses. Heck, Vick might even be active this week. Also spreading them out and running out of three and four receiver sets opened up more running lanes.
3) David Garrard has an absolute cannon and his more accurate than I thought. He puts mustard on it when he needs to, and he had very nice touch on two TDs passes. Now to Garrard the runner: the guy is like a smaller version of pre-injury Culpepper. He's a load to bring down and he's deceptively fast. The Bills put a spy on him a few times, and he still made plays with this legs. The most impressive was a run on fourth and 10 with around 1:35 left in the game with the team trailing by a TD.
4) Dropping passes - these guys drop more passes than we do. Garrard was the victim of some costly drops.
5) The Tightends - They try to get both TEs involved in the pass gaming so hopefully we don't get into any unfavorable matchups with our LBs in coverage.
6) Their secondary didn't look special. JP Losman was able to get into a rhythm completing passes against them.
I think Inspector Gadget will be extra creative in this one, but to those fans who are looking past the Jags, think again.
