I have noticed that many of those analysts think we should go after fixing oour Off line and secondary first. I think we should draft Huff to fix the S position not CB due to his leadership and ablitiy to read defenses adn according to articles on how will read the defense and change it or inform the teamates of what it is adn that is EXACTLY what we need. We can pick up townsend to fix the CB position and draft one OR pick up another one via FA even tho we have mitchell and poole but they have not shown anything yet on the field to say we can be in good position so better safe then sorry. As far as the line, i believe bentley will come to miami and that would be a great pick up but we still need another LT fix. they said our left side was horrible. I agree and from day one i said our offline SUCKS. just b/c we had a 1600 yard rushing season does NOT mean we have a good off line. if anything, its OK. they never made big holes or push the line they always got pushed back and got LUCKY when the holes were there. you always and i repeat always saw RW and RB squeeze through the linemen never RUN through it but squeeze btw them and you always saw the D line in the backfield and saw RB make about 234234243 turns and spins to avoid a 2 man rush a second after the snap. So with taht said, i dono how we are going to fix thigns. too many holes to fix with just 4 picks but its all the more complicated due to the QB situation and needing to draft one. I dont know how on eearth saban is planning on approaching our problems this year.

PS. SORRY mods i believe i posted it in the wrong section the first time in teh Draft forum but when i revised it i realized i covered about FA draft and miami talk so i put it here and went back and couldn't seem to find a way to delete the one in the wrong location. If you guys can fix that, I'd appreciate it. thanks.

If Michael Huff is there at 16, that would be a great pick. But, I think it's a pick that we would make because of his potential, not because of his leadership. I wouldn't expect him to be able to learn everything in mini-camps and spring training. Our Safeties make all the coverage calls (last year TeBucky did, then when he went down it was Travares). I don't think we should hinge our defense around a first year player. I don't think we need as much of an upgrade at safety as we do at CB. If Sam Madison isn't coming back, I really think Saban is going to find a CB through FA, becasue I don't think he will like the idea of having Daniels, Poole, Mitchell, Howard (possibly after a paycut), and a rookie DB. That would be alot of inexperience, alot of youth, and although those guys have the potential to be good, there is no potential shut down corner IMO in that mix. I really think we will draft defensive with our first pick unless we go with OT Winston Justice.

I've heard our new schemes don't require as much talent at corner as they did in the past under Wannstedt. If we are going to look more like NE, they don't have good corners, yet they win. Also someone mentioned that our division has weak recievers anyway, I'm not sure that's true of NE. Anyway, if we continue to generate good pass rush we'll be fine. Another example is Pittsburgh. I hope Sam comes back at a better price.

i think our o-line was much improved then it wasa the year before, thats just my opinon, but if u noticed and watched our games, our secondary was gettin ****ted on by everyone, our secondary SHOULD be our main concern

then our o-line then our QB, but if cutler is open at 16 i say we take em , if not go with the secondary option and oline, i also would love if we got greenway, with a lb core of Crowder thomas greenway and if we go 3/4 taylor that would be a great lb core

Or there is the option of trading up or trading our pick away?

I agree wiht you there.

huff is the next polamalu and ed reed. if he's there at 16, take him. i don't care who else is there.

IMO our 1st rd pick should be a QB or a secondary player. If one of the top 3 QBs is available I think that's the pick. Next choice is secondary. I say secondary b/c Saban likes versatile players who can play both cb and s. As for the OL I agree that it's incredibly important but other than LT the line is not a high value position. The team is better off addressing it later in the draft. Of course it always comes down to BPA so you can never say never, but I don't see OL in the first (despite how much I like Giles). In fact, I think we'd go LB (after QB/secondary)(another lower value position) before we'd go OL.

I want Michael Huff. If Huff and Cutler are both there in the first, I say take Huff.

Cutler has never impressed me and he sky rocketed even with a bad senior bowl. He is just a product of hype caused by no decent number 3 quarterback. Although I do think he is better then Leinart.

Really not much sense trying to figure what saban is gonna do in the draft now .. he stated very plainly that they are working on free agency and that will be first priority our players and others we want .Then the draft... lets face it ..our needs could change tremendously according to free agency and i saban bringing in quite a few.I will wait till then to sya what we do draft wise but just for fun if cutler is there at 16 i say its a done deal.

I agree. Saban will pull the trigger for sure but i also believe he likes Huff as his leadership skills and his versatility and great tackling ablility and understanding of the game/plays.

We cant be mediocre this year like we were this year yes we had determination and good coaching in the second half of the season but we have to get a veteran cb and offensive line help really just younger on defense then we will be on our way we cant relaxe this off season. NE was sucky this year a still went to the playoffs and I believe they will be better BB is the best coach in the NFL they will rebound to a better season.

Closer to the draft it is getting I can see us more and more likely take a QB like whitehurst or croyle in the 2nd and getting an impact defensive guy in the 1st. I dont see us going O-line, unless its winston justice and even then I think a guy who can play the slot corner or saftey would be better.

agree 100%. We need playmakers like Lance did to us iva a lucky last second pikc up. I see us gettin a playmaker on D but secondary wise cuz look at Shawn of SD he is a huge playmaker but not enough to make a big difference and get them over the top. A huff type CB/S can do that for us liek Troy for Pittzy but Shawn should be a deamon next year as his 2nd year. Whitehurst i dont think so at all cuz of his decision making and can't hit the WR in stride but croyle for sure i see possible but mobility is a huge issue and i dont think saban would wwant that. btw, what is a slot corner? someone that plays vs the 3rd wr only on dime/nickel packages? if so, that isn't as helpful b/c he isnt on the field all the time btw i think a Bing can be in favor or a Lawson.
