So now that we have Wright.

no that wouldnt be becuase they havent even ordered the draft yet, season has to be done to see what the order is. we had 2 5th rounders, we gave up the worst 5th we had for wright, so we still have our better 5th for next years draft.

This has been discussed at length in another thread (or two).

It was a typo.....
We had 1 5th rounder for 2006, and we used it on Wright. (Look up the threads).

All the Miami papers & Fins official site say now: We gave up our 5th round pick next year. (Period).

everyone seems to have given up on feely. no one wants to see if he can perform with a little bit of support? geez, you guys are already discussing next season

I believe one of those first 2 picks will still go to a DT.

I agree with you. Even if Wright plays well, the position is unsettled due mostly to age and injuries. The Dolphins likely will still need a top DT and I wouldn't be surprised if they went that direction in round 1. Obviously, a lot will depend on how well Feeley plays (if he plays) and Carey at LT. Those needs may surpass the need for another DT early.

Yup. Roddy Wright or Haloti Ngata are my early bird leaders out of the gate.

I don't think so, I believe I read that we gave up the "2nd pick of the 5th round", which translates to the number two pick of the respective round, and not the second of two picks of the 5th round.

You can't give up the lower of two picks before the draft order has been setablished. If you had two fifth round picks (which we didn't), you could guess which team will fare better (you or the team you acquired the other pick from) and offer that pick (the pick that would be lower in the round). At any rate I think the article everyone is referring to is Pro Football Talk, which I don't even bother with but I understand that they are like the Star magazine of NFL sites. Always consider the source, then ask yourself "Does this scenario make sense? Is it even possible?" :shakeno:

First, I thought someone said we had a 5th round pick from the Brad Beddell trade or something..

And second, I really cant see us using a first round pick on a DT.. We may still need some help there, but we shouldnt have the burn a first on one.. We will prolly have other bigger needs by then, and IMO I would like to see us invest our first round pick (depending where we are picking) in a real good safety.. I believe that is our weakest spot on the defense right now.. If we have a high pick in the top 15, then I might consider a QB if there is a cant miss one on the board..

We got a conditional 7th for Bedell. Hence, we have 2 7th's.

2006 Picks: 1,2,3,4,6,7,7

This is correct, we only had ONE Fifth-round pick for 2006 and now that we used that on Manuel Wright, we don't have any. We have two SEVENTH ROUNDERS, one we obtained from the Green Bay in the Bedell trade, therefore VanDolPhan is correct. We have: 1,2,3,4,6,7,7 and 0 5th round picks. The whole two 5th round picks was somewhat of a misinterpretation. I'm still not sure if whoever wrote that article thought we had two fifth-round picks or if he just chose a bad way of wording it any confusing everyone. But I repeat again, because I'm sure there'll still be some people who will be asking or curious.... WE HAVE ZERO FIFTH ROUND PICKS NEXT YEAR AND TWO 7TH ROUND PICKS.
