Seriously people... COME ON! I keep reading post after post after post where people say, "I'll tell you what, if we don't draft a QB in 2007 draft, it's gonna be a loooooooong year!"
Rookie QB's don't come in and save seasons, save franchises, or take bad teams to Superbowls. If you want to say draft a guy in round 1, to develop him for our longterm and future... fine. But quit with the hyperbole and silliness of saying it is a necessity to have a chance at winning in 2007! :tantrum::tantrum::tantrum:

*waits for the Ben Roethlisberger argument*
I know... anticipating it, of course. Let me say in advance that Pitt won IN SPITE of Big Ben, not BECAUSE he came in and saved the franchise or season. Pitt had Hines Ward pro bowl WR, with Randle El as an all-purpose weapon, ferocious D, and Parker/Bettis running... he was the 1st rookie QB in history to win it, and though he's good, he's nowhere in the league of Carson Palmer, Brees, Manning, or even a Hasselbeck.
My point all along has been, people are expecting some rookie QB to come in and be our saviour. Not happening...

no one, and i have read the majority of the QB posts, is saying that drafting a QB is the entire answer to our problems, or that he will "save the season", or "save the franchise", or anything like that.

but, if you are going to truly re-build, you should build around a QB for the long haul.

for the most part, the successful teams have done that...

lets see.

- McNabb with the Eagles
- Manning with the Giants
- Manning with the Colts
- Rivers with the Chargers
- Brady with the Patriots
- Pennington with the Jets
- Losman with the Bills
- Roethlisberger with the Steelers
- Vick with the Falcons
- Palmer with the Bengals

More recently

- Young with the Titans
- Cutler with the Broncos
- Leinart with the Cardinals

Get the picture

Now, not all of these QB's were 1st round picks...but, the majority were, and high ones at that.

The Dolphins need to build their team around a "franchise" QB...the draft is probably the best bet.

Is it a gamble....sure it is. But I'd rather take that chance than be mired in the QB mediocrity we've experienced since Marino retired.

end of story

im not saying if we dont draft a guy we're screwed. I just personally beleive that JaMarcus Russell's the best player in this draft. Period.

I agree with you and will add this point that 95% of people on this website have. We still don't know what we have with Daunte Culpepper yet. Granted, that could be half of the arguement, but Daunte Culpepper was not 100% and the offensive line improved as the season went on. Lets first see what we have with him this year and then evaluate the qb position. Draft Teddy Ginn and get some speed on the offensive side of the ball

Are you guy have no faith in Culpepper. Don't forget before DC got hurt he was in the pro bowl 4 times, and should of won the MVP if it was not for Manning's 49 TD's that year. Culpepper passed for more yards that year. For all you people out there that say that WE NEED TO TAKE A QB in the 1st round. I say NO to that. We need help on the o-line and the d-line. Watch out for Daunte next year. A heathy Culpepper is very dangerous. So please to saying that we need a QB in the 1st.

I'm with you on this one. We do need to draft a young qb. One that we can call our own and build around. Give him that sense of pride that... this is his job. this is his team. even if its not to start next year... it has to be part of the future plans. Especially if theres even the slightest hint of culpepper not being healthy... cut him loose. no more messing arund and waiting. we have aging stars on defense that need an offense to compliment them before its too late.. and lets face it... offense starts with a QB

what did jay cutler do outside of blowing the broncos playoff hopes

UUUHH it's more about the VALUE of QBs that makes me want to draft them. You got gold in the NFL if you got 3 good QBs on your roster.

you just don't get it, do you...

go back in time and i guarantee you that Marino "blew" his share of games.

everything you read about Cutler is positive. Plus, putting all the burden of that loss on him is BS...the Bronco's defense couldn't stop anything.

its about building for the future...would you have liked, based on what you know now, to have Cutler in our team ?

i know i would !!

Are you kidding? He played as good if not better than Jake Plummer did when he was in there. Cutler didn't blow anything the Broncos defense however did slip a little. They made the right move and what Cutler did was show that he's ready to lead the team next year.

You just contradicted yourself. Most everyone on this board posts that because they want to draft one to become a franchise QB.

Culpepper's return is highly questionable. We have a high draft pick and there are alot of great QB's that will still be there at #9.

If we wait until the 08 draft to look for a QB -

2007 will be a long year of waiting for that draft.
2007 will be a long year of nothing to look forward too.
2007 will be a long year with no light at the end of the tunnel. Get my drift?

If in 2007, Culpepper is a bust (again) and Lemmon (or whoever is backup) is bad, then it will be a long year waiting to be in the exact same postion we are in now.

Who knows what QB's will be avalible in 2008 and where we will draft at.......

Even if everything falls apart in 07, we can still look forward to the development of our 'drafted' QB.

Any more questions???

Well what should we do? We never draft a QB. Every year someone says the same thing...dont draft a QB. Well at some freakin point we have to. We're picking number 9, there may be QBs available....I say do it.

The argument isn't that we will suck in 2007 if we don't draft a QB...it's that we will CONTINUE to suck in perpetuity if we don't draft a QB in 2007.
