Since Daunte may not be 100% untill a few weeks into the season, a capable backup QB is a necessity more than ever.

Last I heard on ESPN News, Ferotte is not extremely pleased about resigning as a backup since he has a home in Denver and would prefer to head back over there.

So without Gus as the backup, how about Maddox? He's worked with Mularkey before with much success. Who else is out there?

I can't stress enough how horrible Maddox is. I don't care if Mularkey is our OC now. The guy stinks. I think we have a good shot at getting Gus back. It makes sense for us because if DC cant go at the beginning of the year, who else would we want? Remember Gus went 6-0 the last 6 games of the year, knows our system and already has good chemestry.

No offense, by Maddox is a terrible idea. When he took over for Pittsburgh this year, he really struggled to complete a pass. He looked completely lost. It's like a bad version of Ray Lucas

I think these two guys would be the best case scenrio, both are as good as ferrotte, and if culpepper isnt ready at the beginning of the season, they would be adequate substitutes.

Griese, Garcia, Tim Hasslebeck in that order are the best options... please take kitna off that list because he's already been signed!

Wonder what the implications are for Berlin & Lemon, too. Neither one of them seems to be ready to be a #2. So, assuming we pick up a early season starter who becomes #2 when DC is ready, do we keep both Berlin & Lemon? I wonder how long Saban's gonna keep four QB's around.

The thinking behind Maddox is that he is a guy familiar with our Offensive coordinator who can fill in the first 3-4 games in the worst case scenario.

I'd prefer Gus to just swallow his pride and re-sign so he can continue what he started the first 3-4 games of nest season if necessary. And I don't know if bringing in a young guy unfamiliar with the system like McCown is the safest bet.

I think the question is, who, besides Gus if he does not re-sign, is our best bet to win the 3-4 games at the opening of the season if Daunte is not ready??

Jamie Martin is actually pretty decent but, i agree I THINK GRIESE WOULD BE SOLID

i don't care this is a great move

read in the star ledger that the giants resigned Hasslebeck

I'd like someone who doesn't yet carry an AARP card.

I like Greise as well for a back Up...Gus if he would take the pay cut...He knows the system and he did close the season well
