So what do we really need to be a SUPERBOWL team?

1. LB Channing Crowder is NOT good. He's constantly making tackles 10 yards down the field instead of 2-3 yards. Honestly if you look at the year almost every single team we played moved the ball on us, the defense overall really only had like 4 or 5 good games out of 17.... and most of their good games were vs pretty bad offenses.


2. O-Line specifically center and guard.. Our running game was bad unless we ran trick plays or occasionally sweeps..... Our pass blocking was only good vs bad D-Lines, average vs average ones, and horrible vs good ones.


3. D-Line We got absolutely no pressure in a lot of games this year especially the Ravens game. Joey Porter can't be the only legitimate threat on your team to rush the QB... he needs help from the D-Line.


4. QB I don't think Pennington will ever win a superbowl for us. He has never been to the superbowl in his entire career. Look at the last 5 superbowl winners and start looking at their QBs. It's a very important position on the team. The only time an average QB wins you a championship is when the entire rest of the team around him is amazing.


5. Secondary Too many teams had huge passing games vs us this year.


6. Reciever Need a real #1 to go along with all our #2s and 3s that this team has.


I think if we can improve all these positions in the next 2 years then we would be true superbowl contenders.
 
Channing #1?

1. OLine needs to dominate, we need more depth and we gotta stay healthy. Atleast LT is straight.
2. We need a BEAST at Nose Tackle . . . Fergy has been a great stop gap this year, but we need a beast . . . 6'2 . . 325 lbs
3. We need more talent and depth at LB . . . versatile guys . . who can get pressure but also cover.
4. We need a FS, we need a ball hawk who is a magnet to the football.
5. We need to develop a young CB
6. We need a big time WR . . . an all around beast with good size, speed, hands and route running ability to compliment Ginn.

From my top 3 u can tell what we need . . . . FINISH the trenches this draft. Front seven on defense and OLine. If we don't like Satele at Center . . . get the guy we want . . . if we see a tackle or guard that we like . . . bring him in. Finish this 3-4 defense so that way we can get the talent on the skills side and put them in a position to succeed.
 
We need 2 more good drafts & free agencies to make a run for the SB

We have a serious talent deficit. To ballance this obvious defect, we have a well coached & motivated team which left everthing on the field this year. we have a future!

SuperBowl? we need:
1) time & consistency
2) upgrades all around, especially the offensive & defensive lines
3) a deep threat i.e. a QB & two WR's that can get deep
4) maintain the intensity

we will contend in 2010:up:
 
Solidify the trenches. Look at all Super Bowl teams, they are always solid on both lines. However, with a 3-4, it's a little different than just the line. We need a good, big line who can take up blockers and we need linebackers who can blitz, stop the run, and get to the quarterback.
 
wow just wow i have seen so much negativity towards this team, can u find anything nice to say at all, geez.
 
I hope we draft Alex Mack (C) and move Samson to guard. Samson's speed and quickness would help out the running game from the guard spot, IMO. Also, if we move him to guard, we won't really need another guard with Smiley and D. Thomas hopefully coming back next year.

Also, the FO might want to consider picking up another LB that can get after the QB. The defense seemed to be a pressure defense, and lived and died based on how much pressure it got on opposing QBs.

Stop we don't NEED an all world WR to win a superbowl. Just a group of WR'S who consistantly catch the ball. And if we can improve our LB'S or are depth in our front seven as a whole history has shown you don't any superstars in your secondary. Those positions may sell tickets short term ie: the Bengals but they don't win Superbowls.

Also we need more physical play by our OL. If Sparano and Parcells don't believe this unit can deliver that than I'm guessing that is where we will see an overhaul this offseason. particularily RT and C. With some guard depth not top tier G's via free agency.
 
We need a Lombardi trophy to be considered a Super Bowl team :lol:
 
Crowder is a tuff guy be he doesn't make big plays. No fumbles, tip passes, int's. He's not a play maker at MLB and we need one.

i'm glad some of you out there are finally seeing the Channing Crowder i see...i just wish he was an RFA,that way we could get some compensation for him...ie...draft picks...how many picks do you guys think Crowder would be worth if we could get picks for him?

set realistic approach
1)Most team pays a tonne for DT/DE so OL has to have some good plays but some players who can atleast double a few. you cannot afford 5 top players.
2)NT - The last 2 drafted and developed NT are Ngata and Wilfork in like what 8-9 yrs.Every 3-4 teams wants one and of the two Ngata plays a 1 gap penerating style defence and vince the classic 2 gap NT.so the odds are tough .
3)LB who can generate presure against 300 LB tackles and gaurds so have to be around 270-280 LB and also should cover like 220 LB LB in a 4-3.would like to see one too.
