I thought we might take a Safety in the 4-5 round range to add to the current arsenal. Without YB, who do you guys think will step it up in the defensive backfield? I am hoping for a Jones/Wilson combo, but could see Clemons or Culver slide in there. I think Marshall is gonna compete for the #2 CB spot with Sean Smith and act as our Nickel in 3/4 receiver sets or when a pass-catching TE lines up outside, like Gronk or Keller.

The reason I want Jones and Wilson back there is because they both are hard hitters that can instill fear in WRs coming over the middle and they both have decent hands to stab a couple of INTs each year. Question is, do they have the football smarts and dedication for this coaching staff to develop them into starters? I sure hope so, or we could be giving up a lot of big plays again this year.

I just think there wasn't enough Safety talent in this draft. We've got some solid players in Clemons, Johnson, Jones and Culver. I've got to give the edge to Clemons at FS and Jones at SS at this point. But let's just wait and see

Looks like its going to be clemons/jones back there at the safety spot starting. Wilson and culver as backups im guessin. I actually think gettin rid of bell was an upgrade for us, bell was becoming a liability back there cause of his old age. He could barely stay on his feet, his balance is gone. It was time to move on. I think our defense is better of without bell, can jones hold down his spot? we will see, i think he has the potential but dicispline is his issue, he gambles too much and it hurts the team, maybe philbin can fix that.

Wilson was solid in limited opportunity last year, not to mention he has a knack for coming up with turnovers. I suspect he takes the job from Clemons. FWIW, I am a whole lot less worried about our secondary than on our ability to pressure the QB from our front seven - Nolan performed miracles last year with smoke and mirrors.

wilson is a nice prospect and all but some of ya"ll overrate this kid a little bit, yea he has potential but he has long ways to go before he gets close to winning any starting job. Reshad jones was a 5th round pick and has shown potential to be a very good safety for us, i think reshard is a better strong safety than a free safety, reshad wants to make plays he has aggressive tendecies, the free safety position is more of a dicispline sit back there and support the cbs with safety help. The strong safety positions allows reshad to be more aggressive, come up and make plays, its more suited for him. Clemons we know what he can do, he can hold it down at the free safety. Wilson will have to be amazing to win this job, i just dont think he is as good as some of yal say, yet.

With all of the wasted draft picks we had in the last decade I wish we would have spent high picks on the safety position and linebacker - I would love to see atleast 1 of those positions have a stud in it like a Ed Reed/ Troy P or a Ray Lewis type. I know these are rare players but I wish we were lucky enough to land 1.

i think wilson will be starting at some point at fs.

we have a lot of young guys back there so maybe we can find the right combo.....meanwhile, we couldn't just draft everybody and things start up front and we took 3 players for the front 7.....the rest went to offnce which needed to be that way.

Ozzy rules!!

I think secondary and WR will be the biggest needs going into next year. If most of this year's picks pan out, then that should be easy enough to address, time will tell. For the short term we've got who we've got.

Wilson should be the starter by the end of the season. We might not be ready to give up on Clemens just yet.

Clemons was good 2010 and R.Jones is better suited to FS. I think Richard Marshall will start at no.2 corner with S.Smith coming in on specific passing situations.

If u look at our D, Odrick will replace Langford and Clemons will replace Bell. With just a little tweak the whole D looks a lot faster.

I'd take a wait and see approach. After all, Coyle worked miracles with the Bengals defense.

Signed a couple of free agents at both WR and S positions. These are the battles to watch during camp (besides QB)!

Yeah lets draft an Ed Reed or Ray Lewis type....lol....if the next Ed Reed/Ray Lewis was in the draft they would be drafted 1 and 2.....

True, if just one of our WR prospects works out/improves then I will be very happy, and of course I'm interested to see what shakes out at the safety position. Either way, we did address a lot of needs this year, hopefully next year our laundry list of holes to fill is significantly shorter.
