So what does this mean for the safety position?

I'm very excited about the safety position, even with the release of Bell. Jones as we all suspected and pretty much saw, is better suited for the SS spot. I'm not sure what happen to Clemons last season, but am hopeful he will regain his 2010 form minus the dropped INT's and help solidify the FS spot. Wilson IMHO is the wildcard here, he is a capable and viable option at safety. Wilson has the heart of a lion and is a very determined young man, it would not surprise me, if he wins a starting job and at the very least be a much better contributor in the nickle and dime packages. This safety group is young and hungry with lots of hitting capabilities in Wilson and Jones. The CB spot has me a little concerned though. Smith and Marshall both come with question marks in coverage (Marshall) or tackling (Smith). I personally think Marshall was signed to a 3 year deal with the notion that this would be Smith's last season with Miami. I will admit, if Marshall can return to his earlier form while he was with Carolina and improves his coverage as a CB than this could be awesome in terms of how good the secondary could be.

we were 26th against the pass last year. we should've drafted someone and/or still need to make a move

Well I am still worried about the Safety position, it is the one glaring need BUT and the big but is that if Jones excels at SS one of the others steps up at FS. It still worries me but who knows now that the draft is over maybe some solid talent will move around and maybe Miami can grab someone to push the young guys in camp.

I don't have much faith in anybody we have back there. It looks like the Achilles heel of our defense.

we cant fill all the holes in 1 draft. def. cord. coyle will do a fine job in the defensive backfield

Hope we sign a vet to help out good young talent at the back end

I think most forget how good Clemons played before his injury. It was a breath of fresh air having a Safety be able to be around a play so much. Dude can cover space quick and is always near the ball. Maybe not intercepting the ball, but he is around it a lot and not to mention an extremely good tackler.

IMO, He and Jones get the start and man it well this whole year and maybe the next barring injuries.

wilson is a nice prospect and all but some of ya"ll overrate this kid a little bit, yea he has potential but he has long ways to go before he gets close to winning any starting job. Reshad jones was a 5th round pick and has shown potential to be a very good safety for us, i think reshard is a better strong safety than a free safety, reshad wants to make plays he has aggressive tendecies, the free safety position is more of a dicispline sit back there and support the cbs with safety help. The strong safety positions allows reshad to be more aggressive, come up and make plays, its more suited for him. Clemons we know what he can do, he can hold it down at the free safety. Wilson will have to be amazing to win this job, i just dont think he is as good as some of yal say, yet.

I think you said it best and nailed it. Reshad was a top college safety, I have no idea why he fell to the 5th, but he seems to be made for SS. And yeah we do know somewhat what Clemons is capable of, he made our defense look decent the year after Gibril Wilson was gone, then we chucked him out randomly and threw in someone with less NFL experience. I'd like to see what our new defensive coaches can do with Clemons.

The thing I'm wondering is where will Richard Marshall play? At FS he was supposedly a play maker. Dlockz will point out though- at corner he would often get beat. I just don't see how we could pay him that much to only be our nickle.

Yeah lets draft an Ed Reed or Ray Lewis type....lol....if the next Ed Reed/Ray Lewis was in the draft they would be drafted 1 and 2.....

Never a shortage of people that don't understand what they read - never said where they would be drafted , just said I wished we would have got lucky enough to land somebody like that

Bell was let go cause of cover skills. I think R. Jones is new SS. Read he played well during the second half of the seaon. Wilson I think will start FS as I think that makes sense for a CB type.

Looks like its going to be clemons/jones back there at the safety spot starting. Wilson and culver as backups im guessin. I actually think gettin rid of bell was an upgrade for us, bell was becoming a liability back there cause of his old age. He could barely stay on his feet, his balance is gone. It was time to move on. I think our defense is better of without bell, can jones hold down his spot? we will see, i think he has the potential but dicispline is his issue, he gambles too much and it hurts the team, maybe philbin can fix that.

Seriously, is every analysis you have just a load of crap or what? The guy was/is better than any safety we have now...he will be missed. The only reason his is gone is because of the money.
