Ok now with the recent revelation that Wayne is Ok with spending a bunch of money in free agency what do we think his goal is? Is he looking for the quick hit? Win the big one and blow up the team? Or is he the type like Robert Kraft who wants to build a machine to keep it going for a while. I think Wayne has proven in the past that he isnt the "Kraft" type. So when year after year I see our coach's just fill holes and hope this will be the year: It makes me more depressed about the future direction of this team. We may stink for a long, long time.

My personal opinion, based on what Saban's done already, is that we'll try to pick up some younger, impact FAs. Obviously signings like Carter, Holliday, Traylor and Spragan have filled in nicely and the team overachieved to 9-7 in 2005, but ironically most of their contracts were short-term, aside from Carter. Was this part of his master plan after all? This year, aside from Daunte, no one huge was brought in. I mean, is Will Allen a true #1 corner? L.J. Shelton couldn't fit the bill at left tackle, and Renaldo Hill appears to be the only big-time playmaker that we brought in, if you call it that.

I think with the abundance of cap money we'll go after guys like a Leonard Davis, an Eric Steinbach on the O-line, Briggs or Thomas at OLB, and take a look at some guys like Asante Samuel or Ken Hamlin in the secondary. Some of the money I feel should go to re-signing Bell and Welker, maybe Traylor if he wants to come back, but we can make due w/out Big Daddy, Zgonina and Holliday - that's too much dough tied up in too much age. I also feel that at some point, we've gotta draft a QB of our own to groom. Harrington is not a long-term answer, and right now, we don't know enough about what Daunte's future entails. Obviously if he recovers, in hindsight that 2nd round pick was a steal, if not, we got burned again, but that guy named Marino turned out pretty well when we drafted him. It's time to draft another.

For some reason, I can also see us trying to pick up a few extra draft picks and maybe move around a little on draft day. New England's gotten rid of big names for draft picks recently, and though I fear not seeing Zach in a Fins' uni - he may be let go unless he restructures big-time. But I definitely think we need to start accumulating picks and building a younger team that can around Saban's system for 4 and 5 years at a time instead of 1 and 2 - like most of the vets he's brought in. We may have to suffer another season like this year's, but that's the pric we may have to pay in order to build up a successful machine-like team like the Patriots. I know most Fin fans are loyal to most of the players, as am I, but the players on the roster now haven't gotten us to the playoffs since 2001 - why keep going w/a trend that isn't working?

he's definitely looking to build something that will last just like what NE has, he just hasn't hired the right people in the past. thats all thats in his hands is the hiring of staff, he hasn't the football knowledge to make it work though. thats why he's not the coach

I tell ya,the players that i have respect for right now are jason taylor, zach thomas, ronnie brown, daunte culppeper, wes welker, and the BULLFROG.
THATS ABOUT IT,,PRETTY SAD HUH

Not good .The same old FA siging to move the team to SB has not worked in the recent past. Can you name a team that has made big splash in FA and won SB recently in salary cap era.funny how having no salary cap and spending most money yankees have not won a world cup in the last 6 yrs .

Unless you draft good you are done in this league as quality players in FA are rare and you got to spend alot to get them. Briggs is going to ask a 35million range with a 7-8 million signing bonus btw.

NE has 12 draft picks next year due to 3 trades [one first rounder] and 3 comp picks for the kicker, givens and FA losses so hard to compare to a team with so many picks next year. Also , their OL is all 4th,5th rounders only their DL are first rounders.

Consider this Jacksonville has 10 million in cap now and their are atleast 8 teams with more than 6 million to be spend before march 2003.If they jump the gun on any of the top agent to spend this cap money how are going to compete with that?.

I do wish we could get rid of a lot of our players for draft picks,i'll take second for mcmikeal just to start.

I just don't want us turning into the AFC's version of the Redskins. It's good he wants to spend but he and Saban need to spend wisely. Giving a left tackle who really should be playing left guard like Leonard Davis a fat contract equal to his own obesity is not smart. Getting a LB like Briggs or Thomas or a top CB is though.

Isnt Hamlin a safety. I would like him here but I think we are pretty much set at safety now

I don't think Mcmike is going anywhere as he just got a 4 year extension from the front office last year. If we can find a way to get rid of him for some good picks than i say we do it but i don't think it's going to happen.

Hamlin's a safety yes. Bell is a free agent, Hill is decent, and Jason Allen is well, Jason Allen. Why not upgrade?

Agree we need to see what we could get in the way of draft picks for a few players, unfortunately so few of our players are worth anything. We must draft well, that is the key. I believe WH wants Saban to build like the Pats, for the long term, with a SB win or two thrown in. I would settle for that!

we'll be competitive on defense and crappy on offense just like we've been for the past 10 years.

I think the future is REAL BRIGHT.

Some of you guys can't see it, but Saban is playing chess; and for those who know what I'm talking about should appreciate this.

Looking at the roster, or moreso; the depth chart. I can see Saban is building this team from the bottom up. Has anyone else but me, noticed how many people we bring in during camps, we keep some, we cut some. That's because he is building depth, mixing and matching to see who fits with our team's schemes the best. Our last two coaches were never as busy with bringing in players like Saban has, and it's for a good reason. He's building this team from the bottom up and he's not done yet. Injuries happen and we must be prepared to move on without missing a beat. If you compare our depth chart over the last three or four years, this year's depth chart is much stronger than the others and it will only continue to get better. Over the last few years, if we had an injury, especially in the secondary,QB, LB, and OL positions, our backups for lack of a better word; pretty much sucked. Looking at this year's depth chart, I feel comfortable with most of the backups to come and hold the fort down until our starter comes back in. Saban will continue to make this team stronger throughout the whole roster, and that is what we have been clearly lacking for years. And now with our depth almost where it should be, and the fact that we are in the best cap shape we've been in since I can remember (thank you Saban and Mueller), I expect Saban to make at least two huge FA signings this offseason to make our team even better.

The future is without a doubt; BRIGHT!!! :cooldude:

If Saban was offered a second for McMichael, he'd take that trade so fast McMichaels head would spin. Not going to happen.
