having your contract "terminated" as opposed to being waived? On the press release, the Miami Dolphins seperated the other three players cut from the team, and went out of their way to say that Mario Edwards had his contract terminated. It isn't the first time I have seen that happen either. Anyone know the difference?

Released- to go to another team, go through waivers.

Terminated- free to sign a "new contract" with whoever they want

Edwards is a vested veteran, meaning he has more than 4 accrued seasons. He immediately is a FA without having to go through waivers

Strange but the exact same question was asked earlier in the day. I read the post but I'm still not sure what the answer is.

This is true until after the trade deadline. Then all players must go thru the waiver-claim process.

We have not used the word "released" I believe either with Edwards or earlier with Cook. Contract terminated must be the now correct technical phrase.
