I've seen that name thrown aroud alot lately and Im kind of curious to know because I have a feeling the definition will differ alot from person to person.

Personnally, I dont think you draft a franchise QB, its more something you earn throughout your career. A franchise QB will win you games no matter what you're whole lineup looks like despite injuries and such. The term IMO, gets thrown around way to much as I have only 4 active franchise QBs on my list.

1) Peyton Manning: To me he's the definition. Peyton is the team, we all saw what happened when he went down.
2) Drew Brees
3) Aaron Rodgers
4) Tom Brady
Seriously on his way: Eli Manning

Franchise QB defintion:
(1) The exact OPPOSITE of every phins QB since "Dan the Man" Marino.
(2) Dan Marino

*Big Ben should be on the list also in my opinion.

I agree Big Ben should be in the conversation...

Big Ben and Eli Manning should definitely be on the list. Might be way too early but Cam Newton also

a qb who can hold down the position with stability for 10-15 years, and lead the team on his back with or without injuries, and lead his team to winning seasons, playoff appearances, and superbowls.

Ryan leaf.
In today's NFL, Ryan Leaf would probably get the Franchise label... Before proving everybody wrong. Thats my point, We started using the franchise term on proven quantities, while nowadays, people seem to use it on potential and possibilities...

brady, peyton, eli, rivers, brees, ben, rodgers. close stafford, romo, vick(would be but always gets hurt),schaub, newton

A franchise quarterback is a top ten quarterback that can win games despite deficiencies in their team.

1984, Dan Marino led the 19th ranked defense (out of 28 teams), 16th ranked rushing attack...to Superbowl 19 with a 16-2 record....is it any wonder the very complete niners team beat that Dolphin team? Afterall, they also had an all-time great QB (franchise QB) in Joe Montana.

After 11 years of Dolphin bottom feeding....can there be any doubt how important the QB is to a team?

Win games, able to carry a team when needed, playoff win/wins, Super Bowl would be nice...and one that stays with one team for a long period of time.

Matt Flynn has the "potential"...with the same system and the same coach, you can't deny the "potential" is there to be a franchise QB...but will it happen?
With Peyton...been there done that and made it look so easy...but a franchise QB for our Fins? At best i'm guessing 2-3 years...not a QB we can bank as our franchise imo.

Not knocking Peyton at all and it would be pretty sweet to see him in a dolphins uniform.

Can't wait to see who we end up with...love Matt Moore for what he did this past season (made things a bit more exciting) but looking forward to Flynn or Manning.

I just dont see the big trade up for RG3 happening
