So whats YOUR definition of a Franchise QB?

Franchise QBs hide or mask their teams' weaknesses, make players around them better, lead their team to scores at the end of halves via great two minute offenses, has above average pocket awareness, and don't have those "WTF turnovers" too often.

A guy who knows so wel the art of making the most of any playbook and his teammates.

Him who can execute any imaginable throw, avoids ints and can buy time to get the best of each offensive play.

I've seen that name thrown aroud alot lately and Im kind of curious to know because I have a feeling the definition will differ alot from person to person.

Personnally, I dont think you draft a franchise QB, its more something you earn throughout your career. A franchise QB will win you games no matter what you're whole lineup looks like despite injuries and such. The term IMO, gets thrown around way to much as I have only 4 active franchise QBs on my list.

1) Peyton Manning: To me he's the definition. Peyton is the team, we all saw what happened when he went down.
2) Drew Brees
3) Aaron Rodgers
4) Tom Brady
Seriously on his way: Eli Manning

I wouldn't rank them like that as Brady is w/o a doubt the best QB of this generation but I like your top 4 plus 1 as the top 5- Big Ben.

But there are other franchise QBs in the league

A franchise QB is one you don't look to replace for 10-15 years.

Franchise QB - Long-term guy who leads team to success (Marino was a franchise guy that didn't win a ring). A QB is cut loose from a team b/c he wasn't successful (Henne). Henne ain't no franchise QB

Great topic. I think people confuse the term "franchise QB" and "elite QB". To me a franchise QB is solid player that you can build your team around with confidence that he will hold the position down for the better part of a decade. There are and have been plenty of QBs that were franchise players but not elite. To me guys like guys like Rivers, Big Ben, Matt Ryan and Flaco are franchise QBs but they aren't elite QBs. Historically guys like Bledsoe, Aikman, Simms and dare I say it Greise fall in this category.

Elite QBs are once in a generation players. Players who years from now people will still be talking about. This list is limited to a few guys at any one time and would currently include P Manning, Rodgers and Brady. And even Rodgers could fade from the list if for some reason his career doesn't stay on pace or is cut short (see Steve Young). Historically we are talking guys like Elway, Montana and of course Marino.

Lets just get this out of the way because I know where you're going with this... Sanchez is NOT a franchise QB...

When there is less than two minutes in a game and your team is down by a score, a franchise QB is one who makes you feel pretty good about your chances of winning.

I didn't bring him up and I wasn't going in that direction but I believe he is.
