Sobering Game Tape on Tannehill

It looked to me like a YOUNG qb with TALENT!! He made his first drive when they needed it, to make it 27-30, over coming drops and 3 turnovers that half of the game!! That last interception with just under 2 minutes to go was picture perfect "Chris Chambers" moment for those who remember him (still have the jersey :p)

It looked good, the routes compensated for the lack of talent at the receiving end. The out routes cut backs are hard for the QB but easy for the receiver...they did a lot of those. Have the receiver stand still and maybe they won't drop it as much...and yet 70 dropped passes later it still wasn't working, says a lot about their talent level at the position. The first pick the receiver tripped, and the second was horribly thrown after he was hit...but I think it would have been intercepted either way. He calmed down and you can't blame him for the last minute int. NOT his fault there.

Plenty of things to work on, but for only being a QB for a short while, that looked good.

These are all things that can be corrected with good coaching. For once, I am confident in our staff's ability to develop QB talent.

I realize some of the coaches were the same guys who developed him at Texas A&M, but Tannehill is still inexperienced. With time, they should be able to correct these things.

Exactly, thats where Philbin comes in....After all, he did make Aaron Rodgers and Matt Flynn look like the next coming of Brett Favre

every thing he did bad in that game (which wasnt a whole lot) is coachable. watching that vid it looks like he wasnt getting a whole lot of help from the people around him. i know that okst d made rg3 look human.

guys that think tannehill is starting this year, and from game 1 even, are nuts. he's got a long way to go. they had to take him, he's got the potential and has a good setup here to be learn and be under familiar coaches and system. it will still take time to clean all that up, plus learn the pro game and get used to the tempo at the next level.

by the way, all that said, the kid has some wheels. he out ran the entire defense on that long TD run and for a long distance.

The excuses have begun before the kid has taken a single NFL snap.

Oklahoma State was actually the best of Tannehill's three worst games of the season. If you want sobering, look at the game at Oklahoma or particularly the Texas game (both from 2011). The latter is actually a pretty interesting example of Tannehill being the exact opposite of his caricature: making bonehead plays throughout and then leading his team on a clutch late touchdown drive (though this was spoiled by a field goal by Texas at the buzzer).

How is this tape sobering? He shows he can run and score TDs. He can throw the ball with zip.

His WRs dropped passes. They fell down creating INTs. I didn't see him throw into triple coverage. The one WR drops the ball at the 10 yard line. Overreacting to the blitz. What QB is comfortable with guys coming after him every play?

2 of his picks in this game occurred when the WR fell down running his route, another scoring opportunity was eliminated when the WR fumbled after a 50 yard gain.

Look at the accuracy of his throws, very impressive. Look at the plays he makes with his feet, in and out of the pocket.

If this tape is being posted with the intent to make Tannehill look bad, we just drafted a great QB.

Again, People like you continue to excuse his downside and sometimes his decision making. Goto the TEX game and excuse those mistakes.

When I see this tape I see all too familiar downsides of many QBS that have come and gone in the NFL.

Mostly:

How can you watch your video link and honestly say "mostly"? There were maybe 2 plays in that entire game that fit your description. How does that constitue most of the time. If you want to make the case that you are trying to make, this isnt the game. He played pretty well this game.

Look lets be clear I am very happy we drafted Tannie..

But when you look at tape like this you see, like a lot of the folks here have correctly commented, he needs work, and would be well served to sit for a season to adapt to the speed of the pro level.

They were up big in the early going and let mistakes bring them the L

Go watch Andew Lucks games when he had about the same number of starts, specifically the Oregon or Notre Dame games.

Have you actually watched the Texas game? I've never seen you mention it until this thread where I mentioned it.

Do a search, I have mentioned it IN SEVERAL ****ING THREADS. You aren't someone I care to follow, so why would I now.

As I have said before. Going into the 3rd qtr, leading by 9 I think it was, he threw a quick slant to his left. Pick 6. He didn't look off anyone, he didn't look at his TE on the right. It was 3 steps and out. Never made any other read. Much less a pre snap read. His mistakes late in games help TAM end the way they did. He and Sherman either didn't adjust properly or were out coached. Neither is a good thing.

I bet I watched more of Tannehill the last 2 years in live action than you have. I live in Manhattan, KS. Home of KST. Go down to Aggieville on gameday and if KST isn't playing, every BIG12 game is going on.

How old was Luck then? We are talking about a SR vs what a Sophomore?
