If a player is injured in a WC game and he leaves the game and is subbed, can he return? In advance, I did try to google it. We're having a lively debate about this here. Thanks.

If a substitution is made he can not return in FIFA fair play rules as in all of the big leagues around the world, many little leagues permit a player that has been substituted to return, but not as a pro level, not even amateur level, thats for beginner level...

By the way, if a player is injured, but no substitution is made, he can stay out of the field the time he wants and return whenever he wants, but it has to be a dead ball (after a play, or just before a throw of hands), of course, while the player injured is outside and a change hasn't been made the team plays with only 10 players...

Thanks for the response, Postermaster. I knew I'd read in some WC thread about the injury/sub rule. The people here debating this issue swear an Italian player left the game and returned and scored. I saw him leave, but was distracted and I don't know if he was subbed or not. Apparently, he was not if this is the rule. Talk about obvious.

Yes, his name is Fabio Cannavaro, defense from Italy, it wasn't on a WC, it was in the qualifyers for this year's WC..., he (Fabio) was playing against Belarus and forward Roman Vintsukovski (from Belarus) kicked Fabio, Fabio left the game for about 3 minutes (a lot of time), but after returning, a minute and a half later he scored...

A play to remember...

NOTE: The substitution, was never made...

Not entirely true. It's up the ref on when the player can return. Most refs will wait for a dead ball because that's when they will see the player ready to return. The ref could wave the player on during live play if he notices the player is ready and doesn't feel his return is an advantage.
