(Mods, please move this.I goofed.)Okay, here's the deal:

I coached little league flag football. One of the parents used to help me out some. Now he coaches my little girl in softball, and he has no assistant. Quite frankly, I hate baseball/softball but I enjoy watching her play it.

He asked all of the parents if anyone would want to help out, and looked mostly my way. I told him, I know nothing about the sport, and that I'd still help any way I can. So I've been helping out. May as well call me ball boy, because I can't help but so much. I am helping some though.

Anyway.... anyone got any tips for me ? How can I help this guy more when I don't know anything ? Teach me.... oh great ones. I really do want to help him, because he was a big help on my first year coaching. Any tips will be appreciated.

Well since they're young kids power transfer in their legs is especially important for getting the ball out of the infield. Tell your kids to make sure they have a proper swing down. Study the mechanics on-line, do it a few times at home yourself and show your kids at practice if they ask.

....have no idea why you would post this in a miami dolphisn forum....but why not just do a google search on the sport and gather info that way....simples logical and obvious....

Youll get warning points like i did...its the most pathetic rule ever.

Ooops I didn't pay attention to where I posted. Please move. I meant to put this in the lounge. I just went looking for responses, and didn't see my thread.(maybe I should have entitled it "softball tips for a dumb poster":D )

Ughhhh...

If he gets warning points for this then I swear this board has become far too ridged.

Like you I have little interest in softball/baseball but I do coach my daughters soccer team. One day I was surfing the web for drills or tips that I could use to make the team better and stumbled upon this site:

http://www.decatursports.com/softball_drills.htm

Its essentially the recreation department for Decatur,Al but they do an outstanding job of posting age appropriate drills and exercises. I can't vouch for the softball drills but the soccer drills were great.

I do coach highschool baseball, but I can't really teach you the game of baseball in a post. Like others suggested: Google, go to a book store, Harold Reynolds and ESPN have a DVD out right now that may be helpful. Now that covers the sports part, as far as dealing with a team full of girls you'll have to get advice elsewhere. I'm still learning to deal with teenage girls in the classroom, they are a completely different monster.
