Even though Miami was said to reach on some and get some at bargains (e.g., Soliai), ultimately they selected at least 5 guys that were projected to be drafted in the first three rounds. By any standard, reach or not, that is a good thing. Most draftnecks thought Soliai, Satele, Booker, Ginn, and Beck were gone by round 4 based on last minute projections. Sure, Beck and Soliai kind of moved up at the last minute, but they did move up. So even though it is foolish to grade the draft now, on this logic, they did pretty well. Anything after the 5th is pretty much fluff. You get a Zach Thomas, or Tom Brady, you truly get cream on the top. Is there a guy like that in the Dolphin mix? Don't know. Maybe the punter only? But they did get 5 projected in the first three rounds, and they actually signed 5 more guys that were projected to get drafted as free agents: Wilson, Esera, Bryan, Pope and Bruce.
The big fullback a reach? Maybe, but how often do you get a 270 pound guy that can move a little bit to play at fullback?
