With no CBA, what is the policy on RFA. For instance, i'm pretty sure Vincent Jackson and Brandon Marshall will be RFA after this season. We obviously need a true #1 WR. Under the old system, does a RFA sign an offer sheet and the team they play for has a chance to match, or do they place tenders, and if a team signs them, their compensation will be draft picks?

I cant remember. I appreciate any info on this.

i don't think the rules for placing tenders will change at all. teams can place tenders on RFAs, if they want to. once tendered players sign offer sheets by other teams, the original team can choose to match within a week or let the players walk and receive compensation.

Thanks, it's just been so long I wasn't sure. I wonder if we will go after someone like Jackson or Marshall considering they will be better than anyone we pick in the draft. They are already proven players.

Jackson will undoubtedly get the highest tender, if they don't franchise him anyway. that's a 1st and 3rd rounder at the very least for Jackson. i'm not against bringing him in, but IMO we have more than one issue on this team.

They also have the first right to sign the contract so even though a 1st and 3rd sounds good it won't happen for top end players.

Agree, however, if its only a 1st and 3rd for a proven WR, we are ahead of the game if we get him. We could use our 1st for a WR in the draft but the bust factor scares me a little. At least we would be getting someone we know is a stud in the NFL. We do have alot of needs on defense. Tough call.

if we can somehow get a draft pick or two by getting rid off some players, i'm inclined to do it. that's if the Chargers don't match, of course.

That would be great. I do not see anyone on our team that can bring in a 3rd or 4th. Maybe Ginn. We could try to call Al Davis. Never know. Since there is no cap next year, I wonder how high the Chargers would go to keep him? The Chargers GM, A.J. Smith is known to be a pretty stubborn dude. Plus, they have Merryman out there as well.

Sproles, Tomlinson, McNeill and Floyd as well

Forgot about those guys. You never know. Its going to be hard for them to keep everyone. I do not think they are that strong financially.

right now, i think Tomlinson and Merriman are gone. Jackson will get the franchise tag, McNeill and Sproles will be tendered. that's assuming there won't be a new CBA. that leaves Malcolm Floyd, who has shown me a lot of good things lately.

Pretty much agree with Merriman and Tomlinson being gone. I do like what I see from Floyd. They simply can't keep everyone. Floyd would be a nice option. I would just love to be in our meetings because you know the trifecta has several plans in place already.
