I have been reading some threads on here calling for Chad to be benched next year or the year after for Henne to "see if Henne is the real deal." News flash: Pennington is the real deal! This guy has legitimized our offense. He makes plays with the game on the line, and most of all he is a winner! He brought the crappy Jets to the playoffs a couple times, and he has turned us from a 1-15 embarrassment to a 6-4 contender. If he can play like this consistenly, I dont see any reason why we bench him or put in Henne until he plays himself out of a job. He is by far not even close the best QB since Marino, and I would love to see him play 4-5 more years for us if he can keep it up. Don't rush in the young guy because he is the "future" when the old guy still knows how to win. The 4th and 5 play was epic. Please show some respect!

Agree whole-heartedly - the guy is a winner, and everything we could have asked for, even from the standpoint of mentoring the "future."

Seriously, I think Pennington is the biggest reason for our turnaround. He's made the Trifecta look so good when he wasn't really even part of the masterplan. I'm sure Henne will turn out to be a good to great QB for us, but there's no way we would have had this kind of success with him this early. Hopefully he picks up some intangibles from CP.

As long as Pennington stays healthy, he *might* be able to take us to the Super Bowl...who knows what another good offseason can do for us.

I haven't seen many of those threads. Now there are some calling for an open QB competition next year, which I'm always in favor of.

 I was starting to wonder where these posts are, why have I missed them and where did they go.

I mean i saw a couple of, well button pushers start a thread like this one but no one was banging the Henne drum forcefully-unless i slept through it

:woot:

THe only ones I recall were when people were speculateing on when the best time was to play Henne when we were 0-2, and most people said not until late or until we were out of contention. I think now it's people trying to start problems by saying these threads are so prominant.

Shew, thank you i was beginning to think I was dozing off at work, while checking the message board

Football teams are always "open competitions". The players are always competing for a starting spot and more playing time and the coaches are always watching the players performance.

Well of course. I meant that, for instance, Chad should not have a lock on the starting QB job simply because he's Chad...Unlike say, a Dan Marino who is NEVER in any QB competition ever on this team, other than his first year.

Penny has been solid, not spectacular, but solid. He seems to do just enough for us to win at the end, which is going to bite us in the butt if we aren't careful. He consistantly disappears in the 2nd and third quarters audibleing to a short pass or run, or hitting the check down guy. Our 3rd downs are horrible in more than 6 yards to go. We are benefitting from an easy schedule and barely beating teams like Oakland and Seattle mainly because our D is keeping us in and we are limmiting mistakes. Penny has had some awesome game winning drives this year, but he has also helped put us in those situations by basically disappearing for half the game. We start strong, disappear for 2 quarters and scramble to try to win in the end. No body knows what Henne can do, but everything I have seen so far says he has what it takes. My thing is I would like a QB that can make every throw, so we can open up the playbook and use Ginn's speed. I am freaking estatic about being 6-4, but Penny is not all that an a bag of chips. He is playing just well enough for us to win. I am all about a QB competition and may the best man win next training camp.

it wasn't directly a competition but if you recall when danny's future was uncertain with the achilles injury, there were some who wanted to replace him with scott mitchell, i remember hearing some of that jibberish

Penny + Henning = Danger for opposing defenses.

I do remember that rather distinctly, but my point being is that Dan was never really in danger of loseing his job.

Crazy people make the world and interesting place. That said, benching Penny for the unknown is pretty silly. If this were past regimes, I would say it may happen. However, the guys at the helm now seem to know what they are doing and don't make silly mistakes.

I agree, we are winning, as long as that is happening don't mess with it. However, come training camp, it's a whole new ball game.

I think we let Pennington play next year too then in Henne's year 3 we open up the competition. I also think Parcells and company will be able to improve Pennington's arm strength during the off season through their training program.
