Seasoned Veteran
POSSIBLE NT
Tank Johnson, Cowboys. Age: 27.
Huge character concerns. Tank Johnson could find a home with a 4-3 defense. If not, some team may hire him to shoot the opposing star receiver in the foot.
DE
Chris Canty, Cowboys. Age: 26.
Though he had somewhat of a down year in 2008, Chris Canty is still a decent defensive end in the 3-4. Looking for too much money if he thinks he's worth 8mil per year.
DE AND NT
Igor Olshansky, Chargers. Age: 27.
Igor Olshansky was an effective end in the 3-4 until this season. He performed poorly in 2008 and will need to reestablish himself next year.
Mike Wright, Patriots. Age: 27.
Another young, reliable depth player in the 3-4. Mike Wright is versatile to play end and nose tackle.
ILB/OLB
Kevin Burnett, Cowboys. Age: 26.
A past BP draft pick that excell's in ST's and adds good depth.
CB
Leigh Bodden, Lions. Age: 27.
One of the top press corners in the NFL, Leigh Bodden struggled last year because Matt Millen foolishly decided that Bodden could play in a zone scheme. Chad Ocho Cinco recently called Bodden the top corner in the NFL, though you shouldn't read much into that because No. 85 is a renowned psychopath.
Ronald Bartell, Rams. Age: 27.
Ronald Bartell has been a pleasant surprise for the Rams and one of the few bright spots on a horrific defense. St. Louis can't afford to let Bartell get away.
Bryant McFadden, Steelers. Age: 27.
Bryant McFadden broke his arm in the middle of the season, but when he played, he was outstanding in coverage.
Chris McAlister, Ravens. Age: 32.
Chris McAlister is a risky signing because he has terrible knees. If he can stay healthy, he can be an upgrade. That's a huge "if," however.
WR
T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Bengals. Age: 31.
It's amazing that T.J. Houshmandzadeh was still able to produce with Ryan Fitzpatrick under center. That should tell you how talented he is. Any team looking for a receiver will be praying that the Bengals don't slap Who's-Your-Momma with a franchise tag.
Laveranues Coles, Jets. Age: 31.
Laveranues Coles had 850 yards and seven touchdowns last year. At 31, Coles has lost a lot of his explosiveness, but he's still a very solid No. 2 in this league.
Nate Washington, Steelers. Age: 26.
A potent deep threat for the Steelers, Nate Washington caught 40 passes for 631 yards and three touchdowns in 2008.
I really like K.Burnett and one of I.Olshansky/M.Wright as pretty reasonably priced FA's that would become rotational players for us.
I also really like R.Bartell CB and L.Coles WR as FA pick ups that would cost alittle more (especially Bartell) but would make a large impact on our team.
Bartell, Burnett and Olshansky/Wright are all young players that have already proven their worth and we could be signing them just before their breakout years.
