2001 Patriots - 11-5 superbowl champs
went 5-11 in 2000


2001 Bears - 13-3
went 5-11 in 2000


1999 Rams - 13-3 superbowl champs
went 4-12 in 1998


1988 Bengals - 12-4 went to superbowl
went 4-11 in 1987 (strike shortened)


1981 49ers - 13-3 superbowl champs
went 6-10 in 1980

1975 Colts - 10-4
went 2-12 in 1974

Yea but you're right... its a new season and anything is possible!
 
I for one don't think we are anywhere near as bad a team as some people have maintained (two or three years till we're competitive? STFU!). We're a decent QB and some good o-line play away from being a playoff-caliber team. Just my two cents.
 
I'm curious to see what the Broncos/Bills/Jets fans will say to this thread. As you know, they will all disagree somehow :cool:

if it showed the bad teams who were bad consecutive years your post wouldnt fit on the site.
 
It would be great for the Fins to be the surprise team of the season. I don't see us winning the SB, but we could sneak up on a few teams and win 8 or 9 games. That would be a huge improvement over last year.
 
fact is NOBODY thought those teams would be worth a crap that year.

but first he needs a damn chance to showcase his talent.
 
Most of those teams either had extraordinary luck or a difference maker like Warner. We don't have a guy like Warner, and we won't. But the R&R show may do some stuff for us when this is all said and done. But I'm still not optimistic, I'm realistic and right now we have played five preseason games and never showed the ability to win on a consistent basis. I know the record doesn't matter in the preseason, but it reflected the way a lot of our team played, not just our 3rd string.
 
Not as big a jump, but a jump nonsetheless.

2002 Panthers 7-9 (last place in their division)

2003 Panthers 11-5 (1st place and a Super Bowl berth)
