Im truly serious on this and I argued this all off season.
We went out and signed maybe the best DT in football to a huge contract and added nothing else in free agency to the defense.
LB was a problem last year and we are now playing guys that were not considered as good as the awful guys in front of them.
CB was a problem last year and we are playing some of the guys that were not good enough to start last year and signed a career nickelback to be our starter I guess.
Why were so many convinced that one player is all that is needed to make a defense great. Was it the one great performance out of five years that Detroit mustered with Suh on its team?
It wasnt just fans, many in the media gave us the golden free agent crown just on the basis of the one signing.
I just hope we can fix this mess in the offseason.

Because the Dolphins signed suh to play LB and CB too

We got caught up in the hype and thought Suh would make our DLine an elite unit. All through camp the DL dominated our OL and we thought, "It's okay, our defensive line is just that good". Turns out, they're actually quite bad. And our offensive line is even worse.

Now I completely understand. I just never got that plan.

Well dont forget preseason when people judge a unit by one series facing a vanilla offense

looking back, we needed so much help on this team, signing Suh was a bad idea. Nothing against Suh. But one DLineman, who would be double or triple teamed, couldn't make up for the serious lack of talent we have. Football is unforgiving, and so are these guaranteed deals.

I said at the time that id rather have 4 good players than 1 Suh and got absolutely hammered for it lol

Suh will still work out, that I have no problem with. The biggest miss was in the draft. I still think Parker was the best at 14, but not going after linebackers which was our biggest weakness, was just a dumb move.

The problem is, on paper we fill holes....then when the season starts, everyone gets old and we have too start over again.

Tru, but we all thought that OV, Wake and the LBers would step up and be better. But they havent.

You can say the same for the other side of the ball as well. Why did people expect our O to be much improved?
Same flawed QB
Worse OL
Slight upgrade at TE and WR

Losing Kacy Rodgers was huge. He was one of our best coaches and got all he could get out of the Dline. The dline hid a lot of the issues we have with Coyle's game planning and stupid scheme because our Dline got consistent pressure. Now that he is gone we are totally exposed and can see how much of an idiot Coyle is and Philbin is for not firing him two years ago....

i watch a lot of football tape and that is the worst misdirection defense i have EVER seen...

Because Ryan Tannehill was going to take it to the next level and lead our offense to all kinds of points. This was going to allow our defense to shine. The defense was going to be in positions to pin its ears back and get after the QB, thanks in large part its great DL, lead by the big guy demanding a double team in the middle and Wake coming off the end. Ryan Tannehill was going to be that guy that matched up with Luck for years to come in a battle for AFC supremacy. Something went wrong. I think it is that Tannehill sucks and was never going to be that guy.

Yea it's Tannehills fault the D gives up a score every first drive and never gets off field on 3rd down ever and can't tackle can't stop run and are slow and soft all 17 fault he sucks and should be cut .
