OK so I have always had trouble understanding why it is that teams get compensated a first and third rounder when they cant match an offer on a FA. Why would we have to give the Browns those picks to sign Anderson? Or is it that Anderson isnt a FA and that he just wants more money that the Browns cant give?

I wonder the same thing. It seems a little ridiculous that the price can be so high for certain people. There is no way on this planet Anderson is worth a first, let alone a first and a third.

on restricted free agents it is allowed that they can talk to other teams, however the original team has the right to match any offer anyone else makes and they can retain that player. If the original team decides not to match the offer they get compensation from the new team in draft picks depending on what qualifying offer was made. That is the basics of it.
