Something about the D I have noticed

It hasn't been a shutdown D as we had hoped for, but at certain point we basically went into a prevent to make them work their way downfield.
I'm hopeful we start to see discernable improvement next week against Buffalo; this type of game is the reason we went and paid Fangio.
Though with the way the offense looked yesterday, the d just may need to be serviceable.

I also noted the observations 67Stang made and I don't think he's being too picky. Against the Chargers our D couldn't hold until the final drive and we gave up over 200 yards rushing. Against NE we improved the run and got out with a win on the road against a Belicheck team that is known to start slow and get in stride around mid season. We held up well against the run yesterday but there were coverage breakdowns and Connor Williams penalties on the OL that negated a TD and other big play. We're currently 21st on Defense.

We seem to give up a lot of yards and points, which can be frustrating to watch sometimes. However when their back is against the wall, they respond much better. As an example, when Sanders missed the XP in San Diego. They were marching up and down the field all day, and at the end with the game on the line, we killed Herbert! Vs the Patriots, game on the line the D made the play to stop the first down on the Gesicki pitch. Finally yesterday, before the blowout commenced, MM went for it on 4th down, running the FB a 2nd time and got stopped in our territory. The D got a huge stop and kept them off of the board.

Don't get me wrong, I am ecstatic to be 3-0 again, but would like to see the D more consistently dominant. We are last in the AFC East for points against. This really isn't a gripe, just an observation....and don't get me wrong, as long as they make the plays they need to win, all is good. I am not sure if it is a mentality thing, or more aggressive calling when our backs are against the wall.
We all hoped Fangio would come in and immediately make the Dolphins a top 5 defense. Yet that is unrealistic at this time.
They are missing their top CB in Ramsey. Their ILB‘s are mediocre at best . They have trouble getting to the QB with a 4 man rush and the injuries to Phillips certainly hasn’t benefitted the pass rush.

All that being stated, the players are still learning to play the Fangio defense which is quite a bit different than they played in under Boyer.

I believe the defense will improve as the season goes along, especially if Ramsey can return fully healthy. I also think that continuing to upgrade the defense will be their priority in the off season. Fortunately with the offense the Dolphins have, a middle of the road defense is good enough to win against most teams in the league.

I believe MCDaniel wanted to hire Fangio because he wants a great defense just as much as he wants a great offense. The Dolphin defense might not be great this season but I do believe they will get the players to be a much improved defense by next season.

Miami is getting better each week, and as stated by Kdog, Miami D only gave up 13 points.

Don't be surprised if next week against the Bills, the Defense we saw this week, looks even better, and gives the Bills all they can handle when they have the ball.

I don’t think he is. Fangio was hired to fix the defense and so far the defense has been a huge disappointment. They need to play at a much higher level to compete against Buffalo. Buffalo’s defense is playing at a much higher level than Miami’s. It would be a shame to piss away such a prolific offense by having a defense that can’t even be average.

Huge disappointment? No.

Is there room for improvement, yes there is, but I would not call them a huge disappointment.

I have always said I would rather have a defense that responded in pressure situations, but did not have great stats, then Vice-versa...And that is what Miami seems to have for now.

Charger game, the Chargers get the ball back with a chance to win with just a FG, Defense shuts down Herbert. Pats game, the Patriots have a chance at the end of the game to tie the score, the Defense stop Gesicki. Then yesterday, McDaniel has the offense go for it on 4th down, they fail, give the ball to the Broncos in great field position, Dolphins D flat out shuts them down. If this was last years version of the defense, most or all those situations end badly for Miami.

Miami defense is getting better each week, and it does take time to become the Defense that we all want to see, but I have faith in Fangio eventually getting it done.

Do you realize the Dolphins only had one sack yesterday and that didn’t happen until the 4th quarter even though they were winning in blowout fashion from the 2nd quarter on . If Miami is going to play the way Fangio wants to play, without doing much blitzing, the front four has to greatly improve.

I saw the thread title and thought my wife had joined the forum.

The tranny fluid seems like more of a you thing. Clearly since you brought it up, you have something on your mind. I was merely agreeing with the OP, offering up a bit of verbal guidance for future posts and you hit me with tranny fluid and bowling leagues?

Are you concussed? Tua?
