I was watching the game last night and at halftime they were talking about how the jets finished 4-12 last year. They brought up how all the teams just put everyone in the box to stop the run because no one was affraid of Penny's deep ball. Now, i am just a little concered about Ricky and Ronnie if the teams do the same thing. What kinda run game are they gonna have if everyone is in the box because you cant beat the #'s.

No different then any other year RW has been here. Even in RW's Breakout year, they were stacking 8 in the box against him. Jets did this to him every time.

A couple of passes to the middle of the field and a couple of outside runs by RW always opens up running lanes, as defenses start loosening their 8man in the box strat.

well Chad was also not fully recovered from his surgery. it take 2 years to get your arm back into shape and you see now his velocity/zip on his passes. WHEN he can show opposing defences he can throw some 25 yards routes or hit Ginn in space no one will stack the box aganist us

Wasn't Pennington hurt most of that year!! When he was healthy the year before they were 12-4.

That's something this team has faced since Marino retired. Until we get a real QB, and I don't think Penny is the long term answer, we will always be facing 7-8 man defensive fronts. To alleviate some of that, you have to have a QB that can go deep and a receiver to catch it, which we haven't had either. Hopefully, Penny to Ginn will be a staple of the offense when we're facing 7-8 man fronts. If not, R&R will have a long season.

the guy is 32-29 as a starter....including last year's miserable 1-7 record.

Now I am the farthest thing from a Pennington fan, he will always be a Jet to me, and I actually hate seeing him in a Dolphin uniform. But my point is, that despite his obvious limitations, he obviously brings something to the table to have a career winning record. It's not like teams have just thrown 8 or 9 in the box and beaten the Jets for all the years that Pennnington was there....has that ever worked for us?

If teams stack the box on us, a healthy Pennington is very good at throwing mid range passes over the linebackers. We saw that this past weekend with the throws to Ginn. They were nice solid midrange passes over the middle.

Bottom line... for the first time... in a long time.. there's progress at the position.

CP fell into our laps and if healthy he'll provide a lot more than just production on the field. Henne looks the part but the guy is going to need some seasoning... this isn't a 1 year fix we're in.

The offense has failed to have a leader since JF... yes that JF... from all indications CP looks to be that guy.... finally...

it's no more progress than there was at this time the past 2 offseasons when we brought in Daunte Culpepper and Trent Green. We had former Pro Bowl quarterbacks who were traded by their former teams (where Pennington was plained dropped). There was just as much reason to be encouraged when we brought in those guys, and we know how that worked out.

I think they were 10-6, making it into the playoffs as a wild card.

The point is he's a very good QB and the fact that teams will stack the box will be because of our WR core not Pennington. Pennington is one of the best Playaction Qb's in the league which will mean a great deal for us.

We havent had a solid OL for years...and it shows. Ronnie and Ricky over the years have managed to get their yards regardless. I'm not worried. This team isn't winning more than 6 or 7 games max...so its not even something I'd lose sleep over.

With that said...the OL looks like its being pieced together nicely.

If you look at the big picture.... CP, CH, Mc and Beck we have more depth and options that ever before...

At the end of the day you can't compare one to another in regards to DC and TG to CP... all that matters is what's on the field...

TG never looked good in TC and worse when the games started.... DC never got healthy enough to play... except against US...

I thought CP looked very solid the other night and expect him to continue to play better... CH and the rest need time to develop and IMO they'll get that time.... If CP stays healthy.... we're in the best position we've been in for a very long time...

And let's not discount others on offense buying in to CP's leadersip abilities either....

They wont be stacking the box when he starts hitting Ginn on post routes and curls and what not.

Pretty much!
