Lirano might win the CY YOUNG award but finish 3rd in the ROOKIE OF THE YEAR voting behind Palbeon and Verleander.

Hell he might even finish 4th behind Weaver too.

I think Liriano will win both the Cy Young and Rookie of the Year though. I'll be mad if Papelbon doesn't win but I must admit, Liriano sure as hell deserves it.

if he finishes anywhere but 1st in both and continues the way he is, people are nuts. I mean the guy has been hands down the best pitcher in baseball and its not even close

Here are the numbers through today:

Weaver: 47 In 7-0 40K 1.15

Liriano: 107 in. 12-2 125k 1.93

Papelbon: 51 in. 29 saves 51K 0.53 only given up 3 runs all year

Verlander: 130 in. 13-4 88K 2.69

All I have to say is WOW. I could see one winning the ROY and another winning CY Young. All 4 are excellent candidates for both.

Weaver's probably the weakest since he's the latest call-up, but if he finishes strong than his numbers will be right up there. There's even been talk that Papelbon could win MVP.

if jered weaver loses only one game this year i think he should get rookie of the year.

The guy is what 7-0 with like a 1.15 ERA?

Thats crazy, I dont care if he hasnt been in the league all year.....

Well being in the league all year WILL prevent him from winning anything since the other 3 guys have been there all year.

he has no shot unless the other 3 implode.

Oh I wasnt saying he will win, Im just saying its amazing regardless of how long he has been up

If he pitches like that the rest of the year though Id say he has a chance

I think Papelbon will get rookie of the year i mean hes one of the best relievers and this is his first year

wow Liriano has much better numbers than I thought. I think what Liriano has done is more impressive than Papelbon, so I would give the ROFY to Liriano. And I have no doubt that is he continues to dominate like he has, he will become a clear favorite for Cy Young too.

If Papelbon beats out Liriano for ROY or Cy Young, it will be proof positive, once and for all, of an East Coast bias in awards voting. Papelbon's been excellent. Superb. Awesome. Pick your superlative. However, a great reliever is simply not as valuable as a great starter.

I agree that a great starter is more vaulable than a reliever and Liriano if he continues on this pace should win ROY and/or CY Young.

However Papelbon is on pace right now to have the greatest single year out of any reliever in baseball. Add that to the fact he's pitching for a first place team all year and his ERA has never been above 1. I think Papelbon has an outside shot to win the MVP as well.

If both guys continue on this pace it's going to be a very tough vote for the writers. Obviously I want Papelbon to win all 3 awards but I don't think it's likely. I really don't think Verlander or Weaver have a real shot at these awards, I know they're pitching awesome but really it comes down to Paps and Liriano.
