First off, I have a great deal of respect for peyton and his ability. But there's something that I need to throw out there:

Just like the NCAA, I say we reward the athlete for making the playoffs and add the accumulated post-season statistics onto the season totals. That would leave Manning with 53 and catapult Danny ahead with 57...I'm calling Elias!

With the upcoming enshrinmenet I'm getting drunk on Marino nostalgia. I'm concerned that Manning's career stats, when all is said and done, will be considerably higher than our boy's. Seriously though, someone needs to slow this guy down. Does anybody have Kippy Brown's phone number?

If Peyton's stats are higher, they're higher. It doesn't diminish what Dan did mostly without the sort of running game Peyton has had any more than what Dan did diminished what Unitas did. Dan is a great even if others can match or beat some of his stats/records.

LoL. No offense but i've seen guys "Race to Marino" before only to fizzle out and slow down completely. Bledsoe was the last one...how did that work out? That being said i think Manning has a chance...it's just that he has to be soo good for soo long a la Marino. Don't worry about Manning yet hes got at least 5-6 years before we have to worry if he stays at this current pace. That slso being sais records are made to be broken...Marino won't hold these records forever. I think that they will be held by different QB's as the years come..making the fact that Marino held all of them for some time..even more special.

I know, Ifeel the same. However, without winning the Super Bowl, I'm afraid history will lump Marino with Tarkenton and Fouts.

That's still pretty good company.

I don't think you have much to worry about, though. Nobody is lumping Barry Sanders in with OJ Simpson just because they were good RBs who didn't get rings. They see that Barry was much, much better.

Dan did it when??? Exactly! He did it before the BS rules of you can't touch this guy before whatever yards. He did it because he could do it! He is the best pure passer ever. some would argue (including myself) he is the best quarteback to ever play the game. Best team? NO! Did he win a superbowl? NO! Best Quarterback to ever play the game? YES!
OK. Peyton is a great quarterback also. He also has never won a superbowl. Hall of Famer? Maybe. He(at this point)holds the record for most TDs in a season. Dan is a Legend...

I completely agree. Plus Manning has the advantage of playing at least 8 games in a dome (which also aided Warner's and Culpepper's seasons BTW)

Oh-and a perrenial All-pro running back and a HOF WR needs to be factored in...

Thank you.
I don't want to take anything away from Peyton. He is a great QB...He deserves the props for this day and age. But Marino is a Legend! Superbowl or not.

Could you imagine the Mark's brothers and Dan with that silly no touching rule and pass interference being called every 2 plays? Dan would have thrown 55+ in 16 games with rules like that.

Could you imagine the Marks bros. and Dan on turf? That makes a big difference.

The only one I am worried about is Favre. He only needs 44 td passes to tie Marino. Manning will be close too if he plays another 8 years averaging 25 tds per year.
