#Dolphins HC Joe Philbin said he talked to K Caleb Sturgis today and told him he has to make long FGs.

Joe Philbin said he told Caleb Sturgis in the team meetings that he needs to make his kicks.

JP says he told Caleb Sturgis in a team meeting he has to make long FG. In front of the other players. Strong.

Talking to him in front of the team and all.

I suppose that's what I would tell him also, if I were the coach.. Maybe with a kick in the nuts too!!

Perhaps one of the beat guys should have asked Philbin if Sturgis was starting against the Jags.

Yeah, he does. I'm glad Philbin called him out. Enough is enough with missing anything longer than 40-yard FG's.

We know Bironis isn't , but is Feeley still available? I think he was competing with Prater for a job in Detroit. :idk:

I think Jay is done. A shame we ever got rid of him. He outlasted his replacement here.

And the receivers need to catch.Tanne needs to throw, punter needs to punt, LBers need to tackle...riveting

I don't know why we seem to have this problem with kickers. They miss a few, get tight, the blame comes their way and it spirals in. Happened to Feeley and then Carpenter and now Sturgis. And you can just see it in Sturgis' shoulders. He looks defeated. That's as concerning as the misses.

Anybody got word on how Doug Blevins is doing? Might need to bring him back.

I am not knowledgeable about him but Dustin Hopkins is available. From what I have gathered, he was rated high (maybe #1) as a kicker coming out of high school in Texas. FSU nabbed him. Unlike the 5'9 Sturgis, he has good size for a kicker at 6'2 190, and is a good athlete (4.67-4.82 40 according to one site) by kicker standards. Buffalo drafted him in the 6th round but he hurt his groin and ultimately went onto injured reserve in 2013 after being carried on the roster for awhile. Then the rejuvenated Dan Carpenter, who has been playing well, beat him out this year.

Maybe some FSU guys can comment on his ability to hit pressure kicks.

Remember when we cheered for Kid Rock getting cut and he did well in Buffalo. Remember what happened?

Hopkins was the guy I was hoping we'd actually draft last year. I was thrilled when I heard kicker, except for it being the 5th round, then pissed when I found out the kicker was Sturgis. Don't know what the deal with Hopkins is but I'd sure give him a look. If he were a former Gator you can bet he'd already be getting a tryout.

Maybe we can sign that one freaky Youtube kicker? Surely he can't be any less accurate than Sturgis and at the very least he could make kicks entertaining.

He went on to suck for 2 more teams before finally finding a home in Buffalo. Sometimes it takes a change of scenery for a guy to get his groove back. Maybe that would happen with Sturgis as well, but how long can we continue to wait on him seeing him miss very makeable kicks week after week?
